Can the PS and alt share the water pump pulley? all the ford cars i've seen with PS have the belt conecting the crank, water pump, and ps pump...then they have a belt conecting the alt to the crank pulley if you still dont under stand me heres a pic the water pump pulley has two belts on it.
i have a single belt w/pump pulley...they are hard to find (for me). so i would guess it will work as long as the direction doesn't change... ... ...
With a sepentine style belt it can but the V belts all run separate belts for the alt. & P/S. The mid to late 80's Crown Vic setup pairs the two together on the same belt (serpentine style-std rotation w/p)
I may not understand your question but here goes....I would say no. If you place the belts as shown the alternator belt will be operating at a different speed (the Power Steering drive groove on the crank pulley is smaller than the Alternator drive groove) than the P.S. belt at the water pump pulley. I think it will smoke a belt IMO.
The 2.3 i had in my mustang had a double grove waterpump pulley. IIRC it could have ran the waterpump and alternator with the same belt.
Mine has the p/s running off of the water pump and crank, very back pulley groove. That is the only thing on the water pump. The Alt is driven off of the crank in the middle of my crank pulley assembly. The front groove on the crank pulley is empty as I left the factory A/C off the car for now. It would have a belt turning the compressor and adjusted by an idler pulley on the compressor mounting bracket. Yours is fine provided that you have that spacer between the p/s bracket and the head where it is mounted. I can e-mail you a pic if needed. Seth redcometgt@aol.com
