oil pressure seems to be too high with the engine running at idle my oil pressure is 80 psi and with engine at part throttle the oil pressure is 110-120 psi could any one help me out with this. DK has said that the gauge might be bad so I will check it tomorrow with and autometer one I have that is brand new. I sure would hate to have to remove the pan and pump and replace pump only to find that the pressure stays the same. The clearances are pretty tight and I really don't know what thw normal oil pressure should be at idle.

normal is about 30-40 at idle on a newly rebuilt engine.. and 10 psi for every 1000 rpms... give or take..

my engine runs 40-50 psi at freeway speeds at temp...
when its cold.. its around 50 at idle.

i would suspect you have a blockage in your oil passages somewhere.. but i really dont know where to start looking

Your oilpump relief valve isn't working.
