the v-8 6 cylinder wiring harnesses should be the same..the control modules should not "blow up" they are 12 volt inputs red wire and white wire on the 2 wire plug...the white wire is for "cranking bypass" meaning 12 volts while cranking and the red wire is 12 volts during engine running..now the ignition coil should have 9 volts while running if it is 12 volts at the coil THAT can burn the 6 amp transistor in the module, IF it is 12 volts , just wire in a 1.5 ohm ballast resistor to the POWER side of the coil NOT the green wire HTH

I've always tied the red and white wires together and ran 12v to them. Also never used ballast resisters. Been running this way for many years on 3 different cars and never had a problem. One thing to check is there are 2 different modules used. One has a green connector and one has a blue. The blue is more common. You must use the correct distributor with the module you have. I do not know if the plugs are different but if they are not, it could be the source of your problem.

    ballast resistor?

I thought our Mavs came with a resistance wire from the ign. sw. to the coil so no external resistor is needed.

Both of my Mavs had a resistor on em when I got em... I removed it and wired the red and white together with no probs...so far...i didnt see anything special about the coil wire from the ignition..
    My 2 cents worth.

I thought the ballast resister was to keep from burning up points.
