I am looking for a stroked 302 I have a contact that says he has one in a wreck I can have cheap is there a way of telling if a motor has been stroked short of taking motor apart and taking measurements???? The removal of the motor might require extensive work or a plasma cutter to get out.. don't want to remove another plain jane 302 if I don't have to...
You couldn't rotate the motor to TDC and take a measurement off the head and then rotate it to BDC and measure again to check the piston stroke? I'm sure it can be done.
1;Take oil pan off and measure the stroke. 2;Doesn't always hold true, take spark plug out, turn engine over by hand and stick a wire in touching piston, marking tdc an bdc (Top Bottom Dead Center) and measure the "stroke" Hard to do that with the angle of hole to piston. Really takes practice an "luck" that way. Stock car techs have a tool if you can borrow one.
It sounds to me as that wouldn't be a viable option. The guy said it would take a plasma cutter to get this out. So I would imagine it would be hard to get the oil pan off or head etc......
i would not take anyones word on it. ask him what kind of crank or rods are in it? see if he can tell you. if he can't. i don't think it's stroked. also i would take a good look at what it was coming out of. if the engine looks like it hasn't been apart might be another hint.
If the body appears to have been airborne for at least 200 feet before landing and becoming "crashed"...it might be a stroker
