Well, crunch time is hitting (slowly)

my 72 maverick resto is coming along and it's getting time to start assembling the motor.

    What it is:

-Late model roller block with a tfs 1 cam, gt40 heads, and EFI.....gt40/explorer type intake.

I can't decide whether to polish the upper and lower intake and valve covers, or to spray the upper lower intake a factory type grey with nice aluminum unpolished valve covers.

go for the modern engine look, or the all shine look??

the all shine look gets expensive in a hurry though.

If I don't polish it, I was thinking of powdercoating the intake a grey.

it's got to look 100% awesome, as the entire car is being redone.

if I did go for the polished alum look, I'd get it clearcoated so I wouldn't have the permanent shine her up deal.

    opinions?

I went with the polished look on my 86 mustang gt with about the same combo. I'm still detailing the rest of the bay, but here is what the maverick would look like if I went this same route. I'd probably do the same scheme, but with grabber blue paint instead of red in the ridges...to match the paint job

this pic below is my mustang motor (which I am still detailing.....) but the mav would have the same similar scheme as mentioned above, but with blue)

intake cost me $150 to have polished, painted, and powdercoated clear, so I'd have that expense + valve covers too and whatever other accessories, which will add up in a hurry.

Its really personal preference, but I like to look at the car as a package. If the rest of the car will have lots of chrome and polished goodys, make it shine.

exterior will have refinished chrome bumpers and window trim/door handles....that's about it...no "custom" chrome treatment....not sure what wheels i'll be running yet

are you painting the block and heads any perticular color? trying to visualize diffrent looks in my head ya know? I think chrome valve covers look good on pretty much anything personally, you could chrome nothing else and it would still look good. then again im not into that "bling eveything you can" look. as for the intake im not sure what to say on that. IMO the factory 5.0 intake really is a hedious piece. the aftermarket cobra plaque for the upper intake would be a cool piece though, matches the valve covers. I had one on my 5.0 towncar lol. can you get the upper intake in a cast aluminum color like your lower intake? that with chrome VC's would probably be the ticket

I actually really like the way the factory intake looks.

block and heads will be painted either black or factory grey....engine bay is being painted grabber blue like the rest of the car, and I don't want too much blue by painting the block too.
