Body Shop Tease!

So I get a phone call tonight from my body guy, he says he sent me some pics of how the car is moving along, tells me what he's done and what he's found, sounds like it's moving right along, so I'm excited to see the pic's. Well he sent me a picture of the door and said I'll have to wait to see the rest! Man! it feels weird not having my car here to work on as it is, now he's making it harder on me

 

yeah, but at least you know he's working on it.

 

He felt bad, and sent me another pic! Now I'll never get to sleep.

 

if it was me, i'd sleep better now. take a shot of nyquil and lay down.

 

I liked the "brushed metal" look better, at least it was shiny.

Picture of the day! Found out something new, he says that the car had the white painted on before the green, there was white paint half way up the quarter panel. I would have thought the white was put on after the green for the white stripe??

 

...what is he taking the paint off with, a...brick...?

Thats what I was thinking too. Maybe its a clean and strip disk, that wouldn't be so bad.

Argue of the day:

Is it better to leave the paint on and sand the crap out of it, leaving the "good paint", or do what's being done to your car, remove all the paint (acid strip or otherwise)?

I'm guessing the answer would depend on a few things.

 

Rick, it's not very often a 30+ year old car HAS any good paint on it. Most cases, it needs to be stripped. If you're going to paint a car and the finish is really good and solid (no cracks or peeling) then you may be able to just sand and refinish over the old paint using it as a base. If you paint over cracked paint, the new paint will soon look like the cracked paint you put it over.
