Realistically, how long would it take for me to transfer everything over from from my 1971 car (in running condition but rusted out) to my 1973 body (everything stripped down to the body and suspension and no rust)?

I wanted to do it so that I can keep the 1971 driving for as long as possible. And any recommendations as to which order to do it in?

Obviously, the safety features would be the last to transfer.

Other than that, I'd start somewhere and see where it leads. :yup:

depends on what you are transferring. i'd start with the bumpers and stuff that doesn't affect the driving. then do all the other stuff last. how long depends on how much stuff you have to transfer.

I was thinking of transferring everything. Because the 1973 is just all body, nothing on it whatsoever, so it'll need everything. Any ideas as to what will give me that hardest time? I think the engine I won't have a problem with at all, I'm worried about all the other stuff like glass and honestly the interior SCARES me!

I liked doing the interior on my Maverick. Everything comes out and goes in so easily compared to whats around now..

I can do it in about a week right now (swapping everything from a '69.5 to a '73 body). The first time I did it (swapping everything from a '74 Grabber, to the red '72 2 door in my avatar), It took me exactly one month, and I literally worked on it every single day of that one month.

I would suggest starting with the interior. Does your '73 body still have the basic steel part of the dash in it? Did it have a package tray or glove box (do you know how to tell?). If it had a glove box, you will have to swap the entire dash from the '71.

By starting with the interior, you can swap everything but the front seat and steering column, and still drive the car. And when you are ready to start driving the '73, those two items should take an afternoon to swap over.

Then move onto the bumpers and exterior pieces. Basically just do it in a logical order, starting with the stuff that is least important to the car driving and working your way towards the stuff that is mandatory for the car to drive.

This is assuming you want to keep the '71 going as long as possible of course. If you want to get the '73 going first, then reverse what I said above and start with the stuff that is mandatory and work your way down towards the stuff that is not important to the car safely and legally driving.

Ditto.... compared to a friends porsche i had to replace a battery in the other day... had to take out the rear seat.

most of our interior is just screws... theres a few clips and bolts but thats it... it's pretty cut and dry. unless you have a leak ... ; )

I definetly want to keep the 71 going as long as possible before transferring things over. It's just that I had such a hard time taking the 73 dash apart that it scared me to think of taking the 71 apart.

As far as the 73, it's literally down to metal. Nothing is on there except body and suspension. It used to have glovebox so I know I'll have to just transfer everything over.

How hard is the wiring going to be? And I think I will have to have a professional do the headliner right?

I put a headliner in my '57 Ford myself when I was in high school, a long, long time ago.

It took me 3 years to move the parts from my donor to my Grabber. I'm such a slacker. And I have a love affair with my TV.
