While filling up today i ran into a die hard chevy guy in a 71 camaro the car was a lot nicer than mine but he gave me great props on the maverick.
That doesn't surprise me. I belong to a local car club here and I sometimes get better comments from some of the Chevy guys that I do others. I really think it's got a lot to do with it just being different. It's not the typical Mustang or Camaro. I Love being different.
had a guy one time roll his window down and ask me just the year of my car, i told him it was a 71, he said it looks like it was comming along nice and that he was restoring a 68.. i think he thought it was a nova.. ida said something but the light had changed
I agree with Don. I've got friends into Chevys, Pontiacs, Buicks, Mopars...just about everything but Fords. I'm the only one in my group. But I appreciate them all. There's beauty in most US manufacturers cars...at least one model of each for a given year. Even AMC's I can appreciate! There was a Gremlin...yes I said Gremlin...on Pinks all out the other day that I couldn't help but root for! Sadly he didn't win, but he swapped a Chevy into it anyway. I'd have had more respect for him if he did get into the running with an actual AMC motor...but then didn't AMC buy all their parts from the big three anyway??? Ok, now I'm babbling...but congrats on getting some respect for the Mav from the Chevy guy! Keep up the good work!
ive always been an oldsmobile guy myself but like most of you i can apperciate any classic car, then again olds really is the red headed step child of GM. i really could never understanf those "ford vs chevy" guys though.
We have only had my son's Maverick on the road for a few months and he has already had 4 offers to buy it. He said "no way". Good kid, loves his car.
my story: I notice a CHERRY 69ish red convertible Camaro following me (as I was driving rather slowly because of red light cameras along the way). As I stop at the 1st red light, he pulls to the left of me and says, "Wow, what a beautiful car, blah blah, blah". I told him the same thing about his car (it was VERY nice). All was good ... until he begged me to race. (now, if I'd been in the RED one.... )
So don't be afraid to do the same in the future. It doesn't really matter what brand a vehicle is...it pretty much takes the same amount of hard work to get one looking nice and running good! I'll always give someone props on their ride, no matter what. I've even admired a couple of "sport compacts" that have come out and run at our local track! It hurt my feelings to have to do it....but when you can get a Dodge Neon to run 7's in the 1/8th, and drive it to and from the track, you deserve credit for it!! Later,
I have respect for all the classics and i gave him and the car respect. The car he was in is my 2nd favorite a 55 chevy a great car. but im not just a ford guy im into all the brands ford dodge chevy and even the AMC and i had an amc javelin but sold it for the maverick.
The most memorable guy my Maverick got props from was a guy in a new red Ford GT. I was over in Cumming in the '72 on my way up to NC. This Ford GT pulls up next to me at a red light and the guy asked what year it was. He said "you see old Mustangs out on the road nearly everyday, but there just aren't enough old Mavericks running around, keep up the good work". Also had a guy in a damn nice 442 Oldsmobile pull up behind me at a gas station a while back, and he just loved the Maverick. I must have stood there and talked to him for a good 20 minutes. And a couple of years ago I was in my '74 Grabber sitting at a red light on hwy. 515 up in Ellijay, GA. A guy in a new convertible Jaguar pulls up beside me and said he bought a '73 Maverick new. Said it was the best car he ever had, and he wished he had never sold it.
