My 1970 Maverick is number 256,464 according to the VIN on the car. since there were 127,833 made in 1969 does that mean it needs to be lower than 127,833 to be a 1969 1/2 ? I'm confused as to what makes it a 69 1/2. Is mine a true 70?
If your car has the ignition on the dash instead of on the column, the gas tank installs from the trunk instead of hanging from straps under the trunk, you've got a 69 1/2. Hope that helps.
Is your ignition switch on the dash or on the column? 69 1/2 has it on the dash. 69 also has a non locking steering column and uses a horn ring like a mustang.
will have to check all that out and post what i find out when i look at the car this weekend. thanks for the replies.
All 1970 Mavericks have a drop in gas tank. They didn't go to the strapped in tank until 1971. My guess is your VIN ends inn 256464. You need to drop the 2. 56,464 is the number. My '69.5 was built in July of 1969 and my VIN ends with 167193. If your car has the ignition switch on the package tray instead of the steering cloumn, it is a '69.5. Also, the other sure fire way to tell is if the VIN plate is riveted to the drivers side door instead of a sticker in the door jam.
My VIN on my '69.5 ends in 36,678 and says 'Made In Canada'. I can't make out the build date in the top left corner. Seth
The member "maverickdvm" on this board has a '69.5 with the VIN ending in 100009. I believe that is the earlyest Maverick known to be in existance. If you guys want to know a date, then post the three digit code under "date" on the tag riveted to the drivers side door. That code tells you down to the day, when the car was produced. My '69.5 has a date code that decodes as July 17, 1969 if I remember right.
Close.......the 2 becomes a "1"....since they started with a "1" to begin with. Makes the consective unit number: 156,464
Has anyone started a registry on the 69.5? I have just bought another Maverick but the vin # is too late.It has the ignition on the dash, rim on the steering wheel and the color is a 69 mustang color ,gulfstream aqua, but it has a door sticker?
As Craig Selvey puts it - mine is a "Maverick Mystery". Built at the St. Thomas plant on October 27, 1969 with a VIN of 0X91T234851. Registered as a 1970. This car came with the ignition under dash, non locking column, horn ring on steering wheel, both shocks in front of the rear, small trans tunnel but no rivoted VIN plate, just a sticker. The Marti Report has it being car #134,851 built at the St. Thomas plant that year but this number may include other makes beside Mavericks. Mine might be the latest known 69.5 made. The only thing that is consistant here is that these 69.5 Mavericks were built so inconsistant.
I have talked about it several times. Everytime a '69.5 pops up, I have been adding the VIN's to a list with who the current owner is and where the car is located and what color, drivetrain and options it has. I guess you could call it a registry of sorts. My question is, does anyone have a '69.5 made anywhere besides the St. Thomas, Canada plant? Every one of them I have seen so far was made in Canada (second character of the VIN is X for St. Thomas, example 0X91T100001). The other three plants I have seen Mavericks come from in later years is Kansas City (VIN code K), Wayne, Michigan (VIN code W), and Detroit, Michigan (VIN code F).
