Okay so the 34 year old original was garbage so I bought a spanking new one. I had it tested and it tested A-OK.
I turn one the car and it runs fine until I cut her off. Then it's a dead battery. Jump start, runs fine, cut off, dead battery.
    WTF?
Could I have wired it wrong? I tested it running and it puts out low. 13.0 at best.

    Super peeved.

Did you check your battery? Did you test your battery? It could have a short inside causing the battery to go dead.

hey if battery completely dead b4 jumpstarting then alt will not charge you have to have power to excite the alt field in order for alt to charge and you should have 1.5 to 2 volts over battery voltage to get a good charge while vehicle is running. check you regulator.

    Excellent!
Tomorrow I will place a good battery in it and test the alternator again to see if it's good. If it's good I can charge the battery up and all is well.
The regulator should be good. The last owner replaced it along with the solenoid.
