Wonder how long it'll be before this thread is locked up.... Seriously though, the ORIGINAL thread (before all the bickering) asked whether a turbo running off of one side of the engine would work. Might if you can get a really small turbine combined with a pretty good sized compressor...but lag would be an issue. It's very possible to do it that way though but it just won't be an ideal way to make good power. For the effort (and money) it'd take to fab up a system like that, seems like it would be better off to run the standard set up with both banks feeding the turbine. You'd end up with faster spool time (which isn't an issue unless it's a street car only OR if you don't know how to drive a turbo car), easier to tune, etc. The only downside is the fabrication....and that is not really a big issue in itself. It's not hard to make headers to work in one of these cars. Now if I could get those headers to work on the 400 in my brother's truck....Ratio411...do you have any ideas from your wealth of knowledge? I'd like to have this thing running & driveable by the time he gets back from Baghdad.
lol, I know. Ratio, I do know him. He is a great guy. I will keep you posted on his work... ATO, btw, there are other solutions, like the AJE kit. Check it out.. Seriously.
Okibono, give me a call. I'm thinking Comet GT Rat Rod with a turbo... I'm ready to test fit those headers from Justin if you haven't already.
Theres a 351C maverick running around here without mods to the towers... but he isn't running headers, and he curses the spark plugs..
I've done 2 without shaving the towers. They are heck to change plugs on for sure! I did one with manifolds and one with headers. Manifolds work fine if you have a floor shift auto trans. The manifolds exit right into the clutch linkage. They need a BUNCH of grinding done to clear the towers. For some reason, Ford cast the 351 manifolds with about 5 lbs of useless lumps, bumps, and ribs that stick off in all directions. They need cut off. On my 75, I used Moroso valve covers, which made things even harder. The engine had to be raised just to get the covers off! Headers are nice because you can get some big tubes in there. Anything from 1.75" to 2.125" tubes! Edit: Gotta mention... At my age, I don't think I will do a 351 again without shaving the towers! Getting lazy!
Those are...but a friend of mine (who makes these on a one-by-one basis) builds a similar one for a single turbo using the same shorty headers (connecting both exhausts to one flange) How does 6.80 at 107 in the 1/8 mile sound? (stock bottom end 302) - driven to and from the track...
And this is why racers/hot rodders/fabricators have children - so they can use their small hands to get into tight places...
