My 69.5 now has the non-staggered shocks in front of the rear and have read the threads that say that the later staggered shock set up was much better. I am building a rear 4 link setup and have noticed that all of the pictures, that I have seen, have the coil overs mounted behind the rear. Since I am building this myself, I could have the option of staggering the coil overs but is there any real benifit to doing that with a 4 link?
If there was, all of the companies that do this for a living building this stuff, would have staggered shocks.
Do not stagger them, it will defeat the real purpose of a 4 link set-up. Instant center, pre-loads and a bunch of other tech stuff, are involved. Have seen a couple that were mounted foward of the axle but never new if they worked or not. Just mount them per instructions and make sure they are perpendicular and no binding on the brackets. Also get the right spring rate which may be trial and error if you do not have access to a set of four scales to set the car up after the initial adjustments.
I agree with all of the above. The staggered shocks were only used on leaf spring applications to minimize wrap up during acceleration and braking. On a 4 link they should be behind the axle.
Thanks for the imput. I was pretty much settled in on putting both of them to the back of the rear even as I was posting the question. I've built things in the past, where right after you complete it, you wish you would have done something different. It never hurts to get more opinions.
