I emailed a guy on ebay a couple of weeks ago and ask him what headers he used on the gt40p heads for the maverick. He stated he used heddman headers and on the driver side he took an old header he had and cut the pipes off and used the header flag and used it behind the new header and it gave him just enough clears for the spark plugs and wires.

IF you're gonna try it let us know how it works out. I have my '99 mountaineer motor ready to go but I really want to use it in my Maverick rather than one of my newer projects. It really doesn't help when someone says " I just used my old headers and they worked fine." when they don't know what brand or part# they are. I have many headers that I've test fitted and NONE except the ones for my V-8 Ranger will work. If I try it before you do I'll post results here.

    Try These they do fit...

    Summit Racing: 1 1\2 PrimarysSUM-G9032

And BBK Longtubes 1 3\4 Primarys ( Need cut down socket for #6 ) only fit stick.

Sanderson didn't have any as well as MAC (longlube) I think the FMS shorties hit the tower? Lemon will make em custom for around $1600

I thought we had already done this...

First, the spacer is just the flange from another set of headers...

Second, to make it easier to start the plugs, you can dent in the very inside corner of the four driver side tubes. Still will be easier if you use shorty plugs and 90 degree boots, but you could probably get a way with regular plugs after doing these. Some tubes needed more "massaging" than others... (mine are Hooker 6901, but Hedmans may be very similar).

Those BBK headers likey do not fit a maverick Chassis.

I think that most of these have been tried and all that works is the Hooker 6901 and Hedman (not sure which number). There is a guy that makes headers for P heads that are supposed to fit on Mavericks, but they were pricey and I have never seen proof of the fit. They are supposed to allow access to the plugs.

    Maybe not!

Here's a guy at the Roundup with P heads and headers, didn't get a chance to talk to him about them.

Let's hope so, this thread was pushing 3 years old!

There ought to be some sort of limit on threads that when they are idle for so long, no one can resurrect them...
Except the original poster, they might want to update an ongoing project.

When I was going to install gt40p heads in my mav I was going to use header flanges for a 302 to place behind the header to give more clearest for the spark plugs.

BUT...if someone resurrects the thread and posts a pic of a new header that actually fits AND clears the plugs, they should be more than welcomed to resurrect it.

I have to admit, the P heads flow VERY GOOD for a "stock iron" head, but those damned things are so hard to work with around the the driver side plugs...

I talked with a guy when I bought mine that swore that he manufactured a set of headers that would clear the plugs AND fit in a maverick...I just don't remember who he was. I might be able to do a search on here and find his name/company. It was a respectable company, too, not just some guy doing headers in his garage....

The resurrection post has no pics.

I know of the easiest way to solve this problem:

Get 69-73 W heads, bolt on, don't worry about spark plug placement.

I realize that ported Ps are good heads, but it is pretty clear they are no better than ported W heads.
So, if the fitment is there for the Ws, but not the Ps, the answer is pretty clear.
