Front-end is definitely too high, but then again, those wheels are two inches too big. 18s are about the max that look good on Mavericks/Comets. And yeah, small brakes with 20-inch wheels is a bit whack. 'Nice car otherwise though...
There are many of those running around Pensacola... Not only are they 4x4 high with huge wheels, but they are always loud, gaudy colors. Saw one yesterday that was purple with orange vinyl top and interior. Ugly purples, greens, oranges, and sparkly golds are the norm. Basically any ugly color paired with another color that my preschooler knows doesn't match.
Wel hell I don't think it looks bad at all. Do like they say, roll the rear lip and do the Shelby drop up front and it'll be great. Definately upgrade your brakes and make sure your wheel bearings are in good shape. Don't forget to rotate your wheels front to back every 5000mi or so, and you'll get lots of enjoyment out of your new rolling stock. Do a search on here for shelby drop and you'll see what we're talking about.
I know where there is a early 80's El Camino that looks basically identical to that, except it's black. The house it sits in front of? Bright orange with black shutters.
No ... really .... I have never seen anything like that up here. If somebody wants to ride tall they just buy a truck! I will reserve comment on the 20" wheels until I see the pictures of thecure's completed car. Could look good if the clearance issues can be worked and the colors are dark and chrome.
The problem is that lowering that car to an acceptable level will most certainly cause tire rubbing problems, and having no sidewall on the tires makes it look less than appealing, not to mention less durable...
so youre saying that if i lower it, its acceptable? that is a "trend" you know? along with the 20s remember? and as far as durable.....im quite sure if the majority of the suspension had not already been rebuilt it would absolutly beat me to death, but seeing as all the bushing and everything HAS already been replaced im sure it CAN handle a little bit of thrashing and i rarely drive the car anywhere other than around town 1-2 times a week im pretty sure it will be alright. and i am far from being done with the suspension, brakes, paint, hood, interior......so until im finished addressing every little problem no reason in whining about how im not gonna be able to make something work, because if i recall i was also told that the car WILL look "donked" no matter what.....watch what you say, because i'll sure be the one to prove you wrong everytime you tell me something cant be done
Not bad! I must admit....that when I first saw your post, I expected the 'Donk'. It looks pretty good. Alot better than I expected. I figured you were wanting the look in these pics:
Personally, it looks a LOT better than I had imagined. I didn't really think that you'd be able to turn AT ALL.....I was wrong. In the rear, here's my suggestion. And it is just that- a suggestion. Not an order..... I put a set of 4 leaf rear springs on my maverick. (JC Whitney, 55.00 per side) MUCH better ride quality, and it did raise MY car just a bit. Others have said that it didn't raise their's at all. In my opinion, these springs and a good set of regular shocks (please believe those that are telling you air shocks are "risky" on these cars) would raise the car just enough. (personally I think the rear looks good....just gotta get it to stop rubbing) In the front, obviously you're gonna be presented with a challenge with trying to go lower and still being able to turn. Rolling the lip of the fender "MAY" get you enough clearance to be safe. If your left side is lower, it sounds like either a weak spring or shock on that side....New shocks wouldn't hurt anything anyway. Some folks on here have cut a coil off of the front springs and some have used mustang "drop" springs. I think that just an inch in the front would be all that's necessary to get the stance looking right (again, just my opinion- And with the bigger wheels, it's gonna be a little higher than some of us with 15's....obviously) But I think if you get it down just an inch or so.....it'll look great! I like the silver color, but with those wheels, I might would go with a matching black paint job with perhaps stripes of that same silver color the car is right now.....I think it would look good. But, you know what? It's YOUR car, YOUR wheels and YOUR decision....do what makes YOU happy. Don't get discouraged. Do YOUR thing. That's what the rest of us have done. When I did my I-6 to V-8 swap, I was told that a column shift auto would not be possible with the headers.....but that's what i have now.....took a good bit of extra work....but it worked! Good Luck!! Take care! Preston
