    Could be the voltage regulator.
Have both the new alternator and the voltage regulator tested at the auto parts store. I have seen parts that are bad right out of the box.

How do you know it is not charging? Are you using a voltmeter?

I know how to to alot with cars but im kinda stumped with this one. Thanks

Get your VR tested then get a new one.If it checks good then you need to check the wires from the VR to the alt.

Make sure the battery has a good charge(at least 12.8 volts)before you fire the car up with your new voltage regulator. The high demand amperage spike could cook the voltage reg if the battery is weak or dead.:yup:

Does anyone have or know where i can get a diagram ?

Does anyone know where i can get a diagram from or have 1 for a 1976 maverick. Ok i put on the new regulator car worked then went dead on me but then started back up had them check the alternator said the regulator or the wires are bad cant be the regulator cause this is the 2nd brand new i but on im thinking it wiring the store cant check the wires because they do have the type of plug in it needs to test it. so i need to make sure i got it wired right and make sure the wires arent bad.

The alternator and regulator have to match. Check the voltage at the alternator when it is running and then check the voltage at the battery. If the alternator voltage is more than 0.5V higher then you have a problem in the wires. Check the Alt+ to Battery+ wire - it has a fusable link in it. Put the positive probe of your volt meter at the alternator B+ terminal and the negative probe at the Solenoid B+ terminal. You should get 0.0V to 0.4V. If it is higher than that replace the wire with a 10ga. wire and a 60 amp fuse. Then check to see if your alternator is charging.
