Hey guys, I have a 73 Mav. 302. And everything in it is orginal except the new original color paint, carpet, rims, and a overhaul of the engine "Still the original block with numbers matching".
Well anyway the other day I went around the block and when I got back my radiator blew up. Well it cracked on the top of the 30 yr. old radiator. So now I am looking to upgrade my radiator. Maybe aluminum?
So my question would be. What would you consider to be a complete original?
Example: To some people, a paint job isn't considered original. Or overhauling the engine. But to others it is modifications to the car. Like not a numbers matching car.
But certain parts have to be changed to be properly maintained aka.. Radiator?
    So what do you think?
List of things that need fixed or replaced sometime.
    Radiator for sure!
Power stearing parts. - Has slow, slow leak.
Vent is stuck on defrost mode. Any Ideas how to fix this?
And going to be replacing brakes and drums.
New Halo Top! -- Someone put out a cigarette out on top of it while I was at a store. grrrr....

Here are some pics of the car also.

Very nice car. Welcome to the board.
Opinion: I'm not into "numbers matching" but more into modification to make it better than from the factory. With the things you have already had to do and plan to do, I would go with an aluminum rad.
It may be a numbers matching car but it's not an original car. JMO.
    Again , a big "Welcome."

Personally, I would buy aluminum and paint it black to keep the stock appearance.

Would that reduce the heat-transfer too much?

Would probably still cool better than a copper radiator. Especially a 35 year old one.

welcome to the board. nice looking car. radiators are available for these cars. while not original they are stock aftermarket parts. some parts are bound to wear out over that long a period of time.:)

Thanks for all the comments. :)
I would like to get aluminum one and paint it black to match the oem one.
But I have found a older one also.
I haven't made up my mind yet.

Very nice car! These cars aren't like old Mustangs or something. Numbers matching really dosen't matter. They are worth more modified, then stock.

A cool story about how I found this car. I was in college in Grand Junction, Co. When one day I opened up the paper to see a ad about this car. They wanted only $700 dollars. Well I called and he still had it. He told me over the phone he bought it brand new and how he taught his mother to drive. lol.
I went on down to look at the car, but someone was already loading it up. I looked at it and was kicking myself for not getting there earlier.
I figured all was lost on it. Well a couple of months go by and I am reading the paper again, another maverick for sale! Same color and everything, I thought "NO WAY! Can't be the same car." But now the ad said he wanted $1800.
So I called and went to check out that one. When I pulled up it was the same car! So I got talking with the guy and told him about what happened a couple of months ago, and he was shocked that I knew where it came from.
I also told him that I know how much he bought it for. He bought it to turn around and sell it anyway. So I offered $1000, and he said $1200. I bought it.
Cool thing is he never did sign the title from the original owner, so really I became the second owner legally.
And have been enjoying it ever since.

Original or not, do what you want to make it drivable.
Mavericks were not suppose to last this long.
