Well....been working on it for 2 days....still tring to get the pulleys to line up. The guy I got it from had no clue about fords. It was a 6cyl from the factory. They dropped in a V8 and put in all the stuff except the double hump trans mount.

He told me that the engine was a 289 with 302 heads. the date code on the engine is 8C20V. I looked in my books and nothing says what the "V" is for, but it is a 68 motor. I took the valve covers off to media blast and repaint them and the heads are 68 and stamped 289, so now I have no idea what the block is. I will have to drop the starter to get the casting numbers off the block.

He had a GM radiator and it was at least 10 inches bigger than the support frame, and the pump had a right hand input. Went to napa and got a reman pump for a 71 mav 302 and new hoses, took the radiator off the other v8 mav I have.

I plan on installing a 85+ 302 with roller lifters (have that in the garage) and backed with a T5. Going to install an aluminum radiator and a few other custom parts.

    Time for a hot shower....I Stink.:rofl2:

If it's from 68 it could be a 289 or a 302. Ford mixed and matched blocks, heads and rotating assemblies that year. The only way to know for sure is to look at the casting number on the front crankshaft counterweight.

I'll have to take a look at it tomorrow. I took it off and glass beaded it and gave it a fresh coat of black paint. It is a 3 bolt short height balancer. Didn't do much today, put in an hour removing the PS pump, media blasted it and painted it.

Did some checking around my office location (industrial park) and found I wont have to go far to get stuff done.

Sheriam williams automotive is just up the street and I have been buying stuff there for a couple of years. was in there last week and the feller behind the counter asked what I was working on...told him it was a 71 maverick grabber, that I was doing some small stuff and was going to locate a place to have the whole car media blasted......he said just walk across the street.....Well I went there today and DAMN here sit a restoration house with lots of old..old cars. saw a 67 mustang convertible and a 55 chevy 2dr. well to be short the guy was real nice and said they charge $100 an hour to media blast and then wipe down the body and spray it with etching primer...He also said if I bring the primer that would keep me from paying the upcharge for the supplies.

????anyone had a car media blasted....and what did it cost ya?

Well I told him that I was looking for a machine shop to do some block work and DAMN if he didnt send me to a place about 3 blocks away. said that they do great work and that is where he has all his stuff done.

Went there and just for the block work....clean, fluxed, bored & honed, surfaced, r/r pistons, recon rods, grind crank, install cam bearings and freezouts for $632

Of course if I install a stroker kit the cost is about $400.

?????Does this seem in line to you guys that have had this work done?

The thing is you never know what is just up the street without asking:).

$632 is very fair on quality work!

If you feel comfortable with him and get other good local feedback,,, This guy seems to be the guy to go with!

Dang,,,you keep finding all these shops within walking distance,,,you won't need a car!
