Hi all..we are switching out a column shifter (C-4) for a B&M floor mount shifter, and we are wondering where the original neutral safety switch was located? Was it up on the column? Or the transmission? Thanks for any help...
mine was on the tranny, but i believe some years are on the column if i remember right. i'm sure someone else is more familiar.
thanks craig. i didn't know that. i just thought it had to do with the year. learn something new every day.
OK...so the switch is on the column. That means if the column was in the neutral or park position when it was disabled, then the safety switch should be closed...that's what we'll look for at the pig tail connection. Thanks.
There is a tranny mounted neutral and back-up switch that can be used if you are going to an aftermarket shifter. you just have to plug it into the harness and adjust it. It fits where the shifter linkage goes through the tranny case. It is held in place with two 1/4" bolts. The holes are slotted for adjustment purposes.
dose any one hsve a photo of a neutral safety back up light switich for a 1973 ford maverick? thank you
the two screws that hold the switch on are very small and one is Very hard to get out. It's hard for this old fart to lie upside down onm tjhe floor and work LOL
Depending on the car it can be at the base of the steering column or on the transmission at the manual lever. As far as I know the Mavericks and Comets had it at the base of the column with the ignition switch (switch on the column). If you have a 69 1/2 then I am not sure if it is on the shifter or transmission.
