It was the drivers strut rod. The two nuts that hold it to the front suspension weren't tight and it was rattling.
I used a torque wrench and a washer to tighten them down.
    Rattle gone.

    So far.

You know, I need all new bushings and shocks.

I dunno. Regular Comet stuff I guess.
There is a massive beam between the framerails with two threaded rods leading to the lower portion of the suspension behind the wheel.
The threaded rods are held at the front by a rubber bushing and the rear by two bolts through the lower thingamabob that holds the spindle.
The rod was loose and rattled when I drove. It was annoying so I drove the Comet up onto some ramps, blocked the rear wheels, set the parking brake and searched for the problem.
I also wanted to replace the Vacuum line to the back of my tranny and since my car sits so low in the front i figured this was as good a time as any.

You throwed me off by calling it a strut rod. I thought maybe you had a up grade supension.

There was a thread here about one of these rods breaking and I thought that was what the guy called it.
I actually did an Internet search for a diagram of it so i wouldn't call it something wrong but alas all I get are how to articles on how to get rid of stock suspension and trade up to MII.

I am not sure what is called but I believe it could be the traction rod.

That is the strut rod, and it changes the caster so you may want to get an alignment. It won't wear the tires just changes how hard to turn and if the steering wheel centers after turning.

It's an overly complicated and confusing mess of rods and arms and bushings and bars under there.
    I like simple and easy.
