1.green-connects to the negative side of the ignition coil.
    2.black-goes to the ground
3.white-goes to a splice connector that goes to a dimmer switch
4.red-goes to the fuse box( i do know where that is)

i believe the red wire needs a 12 volt power source. alot of people just jam that wire into a fuse in the fuse box.

the fuse bow would be located in the dash by the driver's left knee. you'll see a bunch of clear glass fuses that look like long beads.

look at the plug wire that plugs into the dead top center of your distribter, follow that wire, it shouldnt go to a spark plug, it should go to a small black cylinder shaped thing. thats the coil aside from the thick rubber plug wire in it theres 2 normal sized wires that go to it. one is a negtive wire and the other is postive. they should be marked +-.

The black ground wire can go to any good steel chassis component for ground or directly to the battery ground. As for the lights.I think I attached mine to the instrument panel lights fuse.It works fine there, dims down with the rest of the inst lights.

you can usually ground a wire out on any piece of metal. in affect that ground eventually goes back to the battery up through the negative battery cable

I would place the wire on the "cold"side, that way the tach will be fuse protected. It can also keep from doing major damage if shorted......just my :2cents:

    yea good point

and if you wanted to take that a step further place a fuse in the wire between the fuse box and tach just in case

The installation of a tach isn't too bad. Porbably the toughest thing is mounting it in a nice spot and running the wires so it looks neat. Make sure you have the basic tools. Your tach probably came with installation instructions and if not you may be able to download them from the web somewhere. If you have a chilton's manual for the maverick that will help a lot so you can look up things that you are unfamiliar with and note their location. Here is a sample one from some random tachometer, look at the diagrams to get an idea.

You may have to drill one in an accessable spot to run the wire under the hood. You could run it through the pass through for the heater hoses but you dont want it to be pinched or rubbing against anything metallic. If you have to,you could put a peice of vacuum hose over the wire and then pass it through an existing hole in the fire wall placing the vacuum hose in the hole to keep the wire from getting pinched or frayed.
