I agree, go all out if you're gonna do it!!! Ya gotta make people know it's got a straight axle in it right off the bat!

I have always loved the gasser look. That being said ... it really was a mid-1960s thing, and had pretty much fizzled out by the time Mavs/Comets came to be. Otherwise, I might have done that to my own Comet. The drag cars that really made an impact in our body styles were the (then-new) Pro Stock class and the short-lived Super Modified class. Another thought about the red Mav shown with the tube axle ... you could probably get the stock suspension just about that high with some stiffer front springs and perhaps a swap for some longer lower control arms to get the alignment back out where it should be. A buddy of mine has an 72 AMX that has that kind of stance with just a spring swap. It looks tough, especially with Cragars, skinnies on the front and 295/50s (I think) on the back. It road and cornered OK, not great, but you notice the 401 thumping away a lot more than you pay attention to the handling. It sets off car alarms anywhere it goes.
you are correct on the 60s thing but the last gasser war in nhra was in 71 winternat so i fig i was ok
