I think the set I got was $35 but it came with 10 diff sockets. Haven't used it yet, bought it to get a locking lugnut off, but didn't have one big enough.

I have the set as well. Works quite well.

If you wanna see some pricey stuff, step onto a Snap-On truck! You'll be very happy to pay Craftsman prices after you do that. :yup:
One thing you should try if you have a little room is whack the top of the bolt head a few times with a hammer pretty hard. It may loosen it up enough so that the vice grips will bring it on out.
If you do wind up having to use some heat, don't heat the bolt head, heat the bell housing. Good luck...you'll get it. :)

The Craftsmen set works great. I use it all the time.Make sure you spray the bolt with some Master Blaster first, that will help. Wish you the best.

ok well i stopped in home depo just for the hell of it and they didnt seem to have anything like that. their tool section is pretty lacking compared to sears.

first day of my auto tech course the snap on guy came in and wow your definatly right about the prices. i do get a student discount i get to use when i need it

    Hey Tony,
When you need specialty tools get the snap on, their the best. I've been doin repairs for a while and the tools never let me down.
The reps for the other guys though have all been less than honorable, personal and tool wise.
Sure, get craftsman when you can but when you steer to something else, get snapy. You will pay more but if you plan on keeping it...you won't regret it, unless they get stolen or lost... ARGH!

yea they definatly seem to have nice stuff. since im a student i get all kinds of discounts and credit if i need it. once i get some good income going on i'll have to make a few investments. we also had the matco guy come in. his stuff didnt seem as nice nor did he have the better discounts.

it wasnt untill i got here i heard alot of bashing towards craftsmen tools. i had always thought they sold a pretty good product. guys in here talk about it like there harbor fraight or something

I've been using Snap-On, Craftsman, and a variety of other tools for 35 years. Granted, Craftsman is not the quality of Snap-On products but you get what you pay for. I think Craftsman is an excellent tool for the price with a just as good of a guarantee as any of the other tools.
Like Gene said, buy Snap-On if you can...but if not, Craftsman will certainly do the job too.

oh when i said the guys here i ment th guys in my class not th people on this board. :)

anyway i just went to sears and guess what? it was on sale for $15. well the starter set was but it has the one i need. it was a 5pc set with a case thats has enough room for the add-ons. it has 3/8, 7/16-11mm,1/2, 9/16-14mm, and 5/8-16mm. if it wasnt horribl out i'd be able to give some feed back to how god they are.

    it worked GREAT!!!

i still cant believe it, espically after looking at the bolt when i got it out. there wasnt a flat side on it and it was tapered out like a cone.

but that craftsmen set broke it loose first time

i highly recomend everyone getting a set for them self

i went back to sears hardware to get 2 new bolts and sure enough i left mine and home so i couldnt match them up.

so i went around the block to pep boys to see if they could look it up and they pointed me around the aisle to the "help" section where they have bolts all of wich didnt look even close. even the"chrome" hi-po rack didnt have any SBF starter bolts...

oh well i'll finish tomorrow. i dont feel like going back out:rolleyes:

Wal-Mart has the extractor sockets now. I saw two or three different sets the last time I was in one, not too bad on the price, either. I can't remember the brand name on them, but it was a nationally known tool maker. We had a tranny bolt on my sons's pickup that was rounded off like yours was, borrowed a extractor socket from a bud of his and got it out in less than five minutes. I need to make the investment in a set myself...

The original bolts are 3/8th standard thread size with 1/2" hex head approximately 1 1/4" long. They are hard to find with the 1/2" hex head so you'll likely have to get one with 9/16" head.
You can use a standard thread 3/8 bolt, 1 1/2" long as a replacement. Any hardware store will have this.
