I've got my carb and air cleaner on and it seems (just by looking) that the motor will be too high to fit under the hood. I measured from the bottom of the oil pan to the top of the air cleaner and I came up with 29 inches. My 200 six that's in my car now only measures around 27-28 inches. I can shave about 5/8 in off the bottom of the air cleaner, maybe that will fix it? And I'm not really interested in putting a hood scoop on my car unless I absolutely have to. Also, I had to buy a carb spacer (around 5/8in) to make the throttle linkage clear the valve covers. Is that right?? First, no you shouldn't need a spacer for the throttle linkage to clear the valve cover. Mine was fine before I installed a spacer. Second, it looks like your air cleaner actually has a raised base (maybe an illusion?). Even a flat base is pushing it, especially with a spacer under the carb. I had to get a drop base air cleaner when I installed the spacer. I'm running a Stealth intake, which is fairly tall, not sure how it compares to yours -- I can't tell if that's a regular Performer or an RPM, which is taller. (Edit: maybe the taller intake is why I didn't have a problem with my throttle linkage, and also makes me think thats not an RPM intake. The biggest problem I see is the air cleaner stud.
hood clearence definatly is an issue with these cars. the hood on my car came from a guy that needed the scoop to clear his 302's set up good luck
I have the Performer Series intake & carburetor. The air cleaner does have a raised base, which gives me about 3/4 in. to shave off, if I have to. Hopefully, it will fit fine.
I have the same set up as jmgford except with a performer RPM and mine fits fineas well, and i have a raised base breather
By the way, the throttle clearance I was talking about is on the passenger side of the carburetor, where the electric choke is located. This being the reason I need a carburetor spacer.
Get a drop base air cleaner.Shorten your carb stud to match it and you will be fine.I have a performer intake and a (holley) on my mav.Regular base worked fine till I added a 1/2 spacer, then I went to a drop base and have enough room.(not alot of room but enough)I must say though. If that edelbrock carb is taller than a holley you might have a clearance problem with that 5/8 spacer.
I have a Ford 3x2 intake with Holleys and it all fits under the Comet hood with the stock cast aluminum oval aircleaner with a 1-3/4 filter.
I have an edelbrock 289 intake and holley 12504bb using a drop base air cleaner and i have allmost 2.5 inches of clearance between hood and cleaner, had to cut the stud down a bit, but it's fine. YOu should be allright with spacer, before the holley i had the stock 2bbl motocraft carb with a 1" spacer and the drop base air cleaner worked fine, had about 1/2" clearance but a VERY short carb stud. Usin 3" filter all around as well.
