I plan on converting to an AOD this winter and will use my 3.55 gears. Been using a C4 and I love how it goes off the line but it screams at highway speeds. Really needs one more gear.

Not to highjack this thread, but what kind of shifter is everyone using? I don't want to use one of those ugly aftermarket affairs that sticks up high. I'd like to use a Ford unit that resembles a stock Mav floor shifter that will fit in my Granada console. Any ideas?

I used a stock Mustang shifter, '67. It looks stock, works great, and I never had a problem. I have one to sell, if I can get to it. I'll check this weekend. PM me if interested.

Correct, it will need some mods in order to fit the AOD. It will work just fine for a C4.

Earl, I sent you a PM about that shifter. I'm still trying to figure out how a stock 1-2-D works with the AOD...

    Sam,
i have the same shifter in my mav. (just the big one).
to answer your question...the AOD doesn't shift like a c4. you put it in drive and go. if you pull it into low it shifts out on it's own.
i have a manual shift valvebody i got from ...Lentech...it has a lockout for OD.
if you need anymore info. pm me...:Handshake

    ...Frank...

Yea,the AODs don't have a 2nd gear position,so theres still only 3 positions on the shifter. An AOD has O/D,D and 1st.There is a way to manual shift it & make it hold second, but I've been told this is not a good thing and will damage the tranny.

Tim, thanks for jogging my memory. I was being dense thinking there were 4 positions on the shifter instead of 3. My mental block was preventing me from understanding properly.
