    Hello all,
I'm new here!!! I'm just out of high school (for 6 months now I suppose) and now have a great story to tell.

I was talking to my girlfriend around mid September when she told me about this car she saw at school. She raved at how simple and "mechanic friendly" the car was. I asked what make and she said it was a 75' Ford Maverick four door. Curious, I researched it and then I figured I'd check out the local craigslist site with my graduation money (I check a 3-4 hour driving radius just for my usual treasure hunting sake) and went on to search for this car.

Low and behold I found one posted only a week or two before with no pictures (luckily I didn't sort out the listings without pictures.) The guy said it had been sitting for a few years (inspection sticked said 01') at his place after his uncle (who had 3 of em') had passed away in 05' and that it ran only when he sprayed starting fluid into the carb. There was no title, but I did get a bill of sale. I emailed him asking for pictures.

Here they are... The wires dangling on the floorboard are for an extra radio and "surround sound" speakers (extra speakers were in the "deck" behind the backseats)...I suppose for an extra FM radio as the car only has an AM installed and that there is only one speaker in the dash.

I'm not sure how much gets knocked off the price of a car without a title, but how much do you guys think I got it for? Because I'm still curious at what I should have paid for it , minus the 6-7 hour round trip for a 12 gallon chugging truck , lol.

    :Welcome:

Looks like it's in decent shape. Big bumpers, 6 cylinder, 4 door, I'd say $800 max.

    $300

Yeah I got the car for $300. The guy said that it'd be $400 if I wanted him to replace the fuel pump, which I said no.

I replaced the fuel pump and it still didn't start without having to spray starting fluid into the carb. Then I figured if it'd be sitting that long then the fuel lines were probably clogged. So I cleaned out the fuel lines and the part where it first comes out of the gas tank (had to get a coat hanger and wd40 for that one). After a few turns it started right up. But it wouldn't go any faster than the idle speed or it would die. My dad said that it could be the accelerator pump needing to be re-lubricated by fuel since it has been sitting for so long. And just to let it run for a few minutes at a time every day. Slowly but surely it started to run better. Really smooth too. No noises or rattles.

I detailed pretty much every nook and cranny I could get a rag and my hands into. There are are just a few dings here and there but nothing noticeable unless your right on top of it. As well as some minor paint knicks from road rocks I suppose. Then there is some rust behind the tires on the fenders (like 5" x 5" each).

Now I'm having some troubles. Just four days ago it started running rough. I've been playing with the carb and that didn't help to well (I may need help finding the factory setting, and if I do have a factory carb, which I don't think it is). I assume it's one of the spark plugs not firing because when I take off the first cylinder "spark plug wire" it runs just the same. I've cleaned all the spark plugs but it still runs the same. I have to set it at a higher idle to because it shakes pretty good on the regular idle.

There are some parts here and there in the trunk and backseat and receipts too from Wal-Mart with dates most if not all in 2000.

    Here's a list:
    1. Chilton's Manual on Mavericks (helped out a lot, but not enough, which is why I'm here :).)
    2. Extra Carter "YF" carburetor, which looks like an original "style" from the Chilton' manual. I think this was the one that he took out and replaced with the current one.
    3. Spark plug wires that were in a "Bosch" box, the ones that were being used were Bosch but had chew marks from field mice or something of the sort. They gave me a pretty good shock because of it. So I changed them out to the old ones which didn't have any noticeably imperfections.
    4. Old spark plugs. Spark plug boxes which match the ones currently being used. Autolite is what they say.
    5. Some new belts like 4 or 5 of em' I think. The ones on the engine look fine. So I haven't replaced them.
    6. Radio. AM only I believe, not sure if it works. Probably swapped that out too. Because I got the one inside to work.
    7. A "Control Module" box (picture attached). It looks brand new. The one in the engine compartment looks "worn" and has some black gooey stuff that seems to have dripped down. I'm not sure what this actually does. Like I said the car was running fine so I figure there is no need to swap them out.
    8. A bearing wrapped in plastic. Not sure what too.
    9. Along with other misc. parts. Like jacks and small nuts and bolts.

Some wires and hoses are also hanging loose here and there in the engine bay. But they've been like that since I got the car so I doubt those would be the problem. It's been raining here pretty good here for a few days, but when it lets up I'll post more pictures of my car.:)

I hope this isn't too much asking for in this thread.:(

    Thanks in advance,

Bearing looks like a rear axle bearing.

    Great buy you did!

I would buy new plugs, wires, GAS filter for sure, air cleaner. Install all them an see what you have then. Also check your vacuum lines out real close for cracking or splits, They'll make her run crappy. Good luck
