Hi everyone, I´m still here with my crusade of strange questions, this time I´m wondering why use hood insulation and if any of you guys/gals do? Cheers!!!
i have 4 of them and none has the hood insulation. come to think of it i've never seen a maverick/comet with it.
i think i seen one in the gallery with some shiney dynomat looking stuff on the underside. i dont think insulation of any kind came factory tho
I think only LDO's had hood insulation. Supposedly it made the car quieter. I would also think it holds in more heat. I have heard that on modern cars the purpose is do drop down and smother engine fires ... not sure if that is true or not.
my ldo comet didnt have it but then again alot can go missing over 30 years. it seems pretty pointless to me. whenever i get an old car with that black dusty crap under the hood i rip it right out and trash it
Well there you have it,I guess considering your climate it may help keep some heat under the hood to dry everything out on those wet cold days.Otherwise I dont see a real need for it other than to quiet things down.
The '72 LDO I just picked up has it, although it's not in great shape. I was wondering about the insulation because none of the other four cars (not LDOs) I have has it. I also have a hood I got off an LDO but there's none on it.
My 1974 LDO had it. It was in pretty nice shape. I took it off and sent it to REM and they used it as a pattern to repop them for Auto Krafters and other vendors.
