Here are a set of 16 inch Torque Thrust II's I have. I ran them on my '72 for like a week. Obviously the front tire is waaay too small (the tires came on the wheels when I got them), but I think the size of the wheels are perfect. I plan to run them on my '73, with proper sized tires. I am going to put 2 inch drop spindles on the car also. The front wheel has deeper back spacing then the rear.
Hey Jeremy, yep the Torq Thrusts on my Mav are 15x7. I think the size of wheel depends on your preference (obviously), but also on what you are trying to accomplish with your Mav. If trying to make a restomod with a newer more modern look, the big wheels may be the ticket, but I personally wanted to make something that looked good but had the old school feel/look to it. I am not opposed bigger wheels, but I'll reserve those for a Mav I want to make look modern with EFI, OD, modern interior, trick suspension, etc. With all these pics, I'm sure you'll make a great decision - lots of nice Mavs/Comets out there! -Corbin
Resto-Mod? Nostalgiac musclecar? Stock restoration? Racecar? They all have different look. Its just a matter of realizing which look you like. Here is a look at mine on 15s.
14's all the way around on mine, but that is what came on the car. I may look at changing that someday.
I like 15s as shown on my green Comet below. I have thought that 16s might be an upper personal limit. Like others have said, these cars are smaller than many other older cars, so visually, the wheels look proportionally larger anyway.
J Miller hey my co worker said she is not a maverick/ comet fan but seh saw a pict of yours and said , "hey I kinda like that one, makes me think of a jaguar with green"... Well I don't know about that but your green 4 door represents well!
Personally, I really like the 17/18 look, but since you asked what looks good on "classic" Mavericks, I voted 15s all around. I think you start to lose the "classic" look when you go bigger...
i'm simply blown away that so many people like 15's. they're so small!! I do plan on lowering the car slightly, but I want the entire wheel well filled up. If I run 15's, that means fill it up with the tallest tire I can. That's a whole lot of tire... guess the old school crowd prefers more tire vs more wheel eh? Now i'm even more confused what I want I was leaning towards 17x8's out back and 17x7's up front, but now I don't know
Im surprised that so many people voted for the 15" wheels as well, especially since there are many classic wheels being made in bigger sizes.
