Hello I found a 1971 Ford Ranchero with a 9" rear end. Does some body knows what gear ratio do this cars came with and is this a + traction? the car has a 351, auto trans.
My 71 Ranchero had 3.25 gears, no limited slip. However, there were options galore back then. You must look at the tag on the rear... The tag will have something along the lines of: 3. 00 or 3. L 00 The first one shows the gear ratio as 3.00:1 open diff. The second, with the "L" in between the digits, shows a 3.00:1 gear with Limited slip.
I know that the rear end is longer (maverick rear end is about 55" long and the ranchero has a 61" long) but I was thinking in geting the rear end cut and find some shorter axles for it to make it fit. what do you all think?
i think late 50's fords were the only 9'' that are the right size for a mav 60's mustangs are pretty close too
I know for shure I have to cut the rear end but what I don't know how much and what size axles to get and also I don't know if it's a 28 or a 31?
most axle companies like moser or currie will build you axles according to your specs. you cant just cut the axles as they have to be resplined.
i don't think moser charges much more than a stock set of axles, but i'm not sure. my 33 spline mosers were a stock length and were about $300. you might want to look at there web site. it also shows how to measure them.
what about cuting the rear end to this length and get this axles for less? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/31-S...ryZ33728QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem more like this one.
