    Locking gas cap?

Like was this an option from Ford or the dealer??? Really it's just a curiousity killed the cat type question but I figured with all these Maverick fanatics around here someone will know.

I've never seen one in person, but have seen them on eBay.

there is a Stant locking gas cap that fit the maverick as well as several other 70's model cars on ebay right now. I guess the reason for the curiousity is that when I bought my 73 Grabber it has a locking cap on it and it is stamped motorcraft inside the gas cap. I was just wondering if it may have been an original option or if it was off another ford car or if it was just something that Ford/Motorcraft made and sold to the public through parts distributors or ????

What are the years/models they were on? I have a NOS one as well that I was just about to post a picture of until Mavaholic beat me to it! MIne has a Motorcraft part number, no Ford part number.

That was part of the shelby mavericks options.

Well, I have a Motorcraft locker that came on the Sprint.
It was well marked as a Ford, but it wasn't purty like the one in the pic dated 75.
Did they have those in 72, or did it just get a MC unit?

It has just been assumed that mine was a dealer option as it has always been with the car. I don't know now. I feel cheated...
    I want a purty one!

All gas caps would either be Autolite or Motorcraft, they were made for replacement and assembly line installation.
I think the locking gas cap started showing up in the 74 brochure, but I could be wrong.

I have one like Mavaholic posted the picture of. I bought it on eBay a few weeks ago for 43 bucks shipped. NOS part # D5DZ-9030-F I was the only bidder on it... maybe I paid too much?

It's my belief those would have been dealer install options, not RPO. A lot of the accessorys catalogs list it, but no pics.

Mine came right from the assembly plant when they were building Mavericks, So I would think that would show they were put on when built if ordered with one.?

If that was the case....it would show on the build sheet somewhere.

My Dad has a '77 that is all original with one of these caps. However, he didn't buy it new so I have no idea whether it was a dealer installed option or not.
I bought one off Ebay last year, but haven't put it on a car yet. I've seen these caps both with and without a retainer cable.

With the price of gas...No Way...they will probably just go up in value!
