Hope it is not a no-no posting about a live eBay auction in this forum . I swear that I have no personal stake in it. If it is a problem, feel free to move this post. It is just that I can not recall seeing a split bench seat like in this auction. They look like LDO buckets joined together like Ford did with Mustang buckets. Check it out and let me know what you think ... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1977...oryZ6057QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
The seat looks stock to me. One of my 77' Mavericks has that kind of seat. It's called a flight bench seat and it was an option on the 77' Mavericks. I'm not sure if it was an option on other years or not. Other than mine, the only other ones I have ever seen have been in pictures. Here's a pic of mine.
I have one of those too, only in tan. Only available in '77 as far as I know. Mine is in good shape waiting for a project or for somebody who wants one.
I have a card somewhere that show that seat as part of a Value Package for the 77 Maverick. I didn't think it was a stand alone option. .....Just found the card, it says: 1977 Maverick Limited Edition Special Value Package Model Availibility: Four Door Sedan Package Content: lower Body tu-tone treatment/wide vinyl insert bodyside molding Special two spoke steering wheel Bodyside paint accent stripe Unique wheel covers Bright window frames/belt molding Package "A": All the above plus Flight Bench Seat/Vinyl Roof The interior colors offered with it were Blue/Bright red/Tan/Black The suggested retail price was $253 with a $176 discount for a total of $77 for the base package and $404 with a discount of $227 dollars for a total price of $177 for Package "A". As far as option availability, with the base package you could NOT get the Exterior Decor Group, with package "A" you could NOT have (the seperate) Vinyl Seat trim, Interior Decor Group, Bucket Seats, or the (seperate) Vinyl Roof. All other RPO options were available. The dealer cost was $65.64 for the base package and $150.54 for Package "A".
i usually hear people call that style "captain seats" i dont know if that was ever an officl term tho lol
Ahh, gotta love that auction. Once again, "rare", one of the most abused terms on ebay. Car is not a factory 302 car, and the thought of a 1977 ANYTHING being a Muscle Car is a joke to me... Be interesting to see what the reserve is.
there were still a few f-bodies out there packing a punch in '77. but noting to brag about on this side of the fence lol
Yea, my grandpa bought a '77 T-Bird new that had a 460. That car still packed a punch, as it would smoke the tires, but there is the problem... Any car Ford had that still had some sort of power was a freakin' boat!
In 1978 Road Test magazine tested the Camaro Z28, Trans Am and the Corvette. They hated the Corvette's awful handling, said the Z28 needed more power and picked the Trans Am as the best deal (considering it cost half what the 'Vette cost) and matched it's handling. The qurter mile times were: 'Vette: 15.1@92.9 mph Trans Am: 15.2@93.4 mph Z28: 15.8@88.3 mph The 'Vette was mariginally faster, but they said it's cooling was inadequate and so if you wanted to race for pink slips pick Carson city to Las vegas, the 'Vette would never make it. All these car's they tested were set up for the fastest times with the most powerful equipment the manufacturers had. That means no AC, radio, appearence packages, etc. to add weight. Since most folks wanted creature comforts, most of the ones you see on the street would of course have been slower than the test cars. Their test vehicles had four speeds with 3.7 rear for the 'Vette, 3.73 with the Z28, and 3.42 for the trans Am. I was surprised to see what a awful handler the 'Vette was, they cursed it all day!
That is pretty funny... My mom loved her '77 Corvette, to the tune of putting over 250,000 miles on it from 1978-1986 when a tie rod let loose, causing her to run off the road and hit a tree. My dad patched it back together after that, but it never drove right again so they didn't drive it much. A rear wheel bearing went out in 1988, and they sold it to my grandpa, who sold it to some guy that was going to build a drag car out of it. In 2001, my dad and I were at a car show in his Comet, as this Corvette club pulled in. As we were watching them pull in and park, one drove by that was black with red interior, and my dad made a comment about how that car looked so much like the one my mom had, it was creepy. We went to check the car out, and my dad starts talking to the owner. Told him we used to have one just like this, guy said "ohh, this one can't be it, this car was from Indiana". My dad told him, we had brought ours down from Indiana in 1984. They kept talking, and sure enough, it was the same car, totally restored to show room stock condition. Guy said he drug it out of a junkyard, and spent 4 years restoring it. My dad has been keeping track of it since. So now that we are totally off topic...
