Shifting hard

    Hi i have a 74 with a 250 column shift automatic when you really get on it it will wind itself out until you back of the accelerator then it will change and go on does anyone have a answer as to what this maybe and how i can fix the problem

    Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks

    don't be skeered and leave your foot on the gas it'll shift eventually... hahahahaha

    Seriously though my pickup truck does that when the temperature changes outside. I can't rememebr off the top of my head if it is when it is cold or when it gets hot but one way or the other it winds out and holds second gear until you let off the gas and press back down on it again then it shifts to 3 and O/D fine.

    I was told that I have a vaccuum leak somewhere and that is what causes it.

    Sounds like the vacuum modulator valve is kaputz. Change it out and enjoy the ride!

    Mine did the same thing. Mod valve fixed it.
