    Merry Christmas fellow gearheads.

I put a for sale thread in the cars/parts for sale area a couple months ago and haven't had much activity. Okay, I kiow that I'm asking a lot for the car, and understand that I'll have to come down on the price to sell. In the interests of getting the car out of my garage so I can move on to other projects, I'm thinking of putting the car on eBay.

What I'm interested in are some comments & suggestions on using eBay, and good or bad experiences people have had. I have never sold anything on eBay, but have purchased a lot of Maverick parts and memorabilia. How about some feedback from people who have sold cars on eBay???

    Thanks. Tom

Well the exposure on Ebay is great, but for me, I don't know if I would like selling my car on it. Parts - but not the car. Just my opinion. I like to see and meet the future owner of my cars before any negotiations take place - I want to make sure it's going to a good home. On Ebay, everything is anonymous and you can't tell for sure if a worthy person bought it. Another possibility is that the person doesn't show up with the money and you get screwed out of time and a bit of money. My ebay experience has been a good one, but I know of a few people who have gotten burned by it. I know it's not a sure way to tell, but feedback ratings, and reading the comments given are pretty good indicators of the person - make sure to read the negative too. Ebay might be a good step for you - your car is very nice, and very rare - sounds like it would do well on ebay. Make sure to set a reserve. Remember, this is all just my opinion, but in the end, it's your decision.

Okay, thanks for the comments. Sounds like you can be successful, but have to be careful in the process.

When you sell something on eBay, what does it cost? Do you pay eBay a flat fee, or a percentage of the winning bid? In Corbin's scenario where you sell the car, but the buyer doesn't come through, do you still have to pay eBay?

    Thanks again. Tom

    ebay always gets their money.........
in the registration to sell, you have to give an electronic payment method ........ as far as $$, you pay a % I think, plus ebay motors has a higher % than reg ebay ........ It cost me near $ 80 to sell the seadoo, with reserve price and all ......... Robert

E Bay Motors charged a flat fee for listing, I think it was 40 for the wagon I sold. If you follow the instructions for introduction to selling it should be made clear. In the case of a non paying bidder contact E Bay for relief. They have ALL bases covered. And yes, they will get their money. Nuttin free.

I sold a Corvette "through" Ebay. I had a reserve set and did not sell it on the auction as the bidding did not get high enough. But, as several have mentioned here, I got exposure. Just after the auction ended, someone who had seen the car on Ebay made contact with me and made arrangements to come look at and drive the car in person. I delivered the car and collected a cashiers check about two weeks later.
