I need for someone to check on the part number for a rear brake line hose/block for an 8" 1972 Maverick. I ordered one from Checker which is listed below. The hole is not large enough and the hose is very long compared to the original. There were two different numbers available, one for 9" and the other 10" brakes.

    Bendix 88399 9" brakes
    Bendix 77009 10" brakes

We tried Raybestos but could not locate any in the warehouses. If you have their numbers for the above, please quote as well.

I had a similar issue, tried all the local sources and all had the same part number which was the wrong hole diameter in the rear distribution block. I finally went to a hydraulic hose shop and had them cut the old hose off braze a new compression fitting onto the distribution block and add a new hose. I think the cost was around $50. It has worked great since and the car is a daily driver.

When I did the one on my 1972...I got the hose at Napa or Carquest and it was an exact fit.

Don, I used the Raybestos part# BH36710 that I got from Checker. I believe I had to order it but it only took a few days. Fit great. (y) Seems strange to me that Bendix would offer two different hoses, one for 9inch brakes and one for 10inch brakes. The Raybestos part doesn't specify. I don't see how that would matter.

I had to settle for the Bendix one as the Raybestos part was not available in the entire southwest. I went to CarQuest and ordered the one Craig specified and will see tomorrow if that one fits. I am wondering if the smaller hole version was for the 7.25 rears and they just did not upgrade the part number for the 8" type. This is something that needs to be documented for future reference.

I got mine from NAPA. I just took the old one in and matched it up. I don't recall it being more than $15-20 or so...

Sorry, cannot help on part number, it was a long time ago.

Just to clarify, there are 2 different hole sizes for the vent bolt. Mine is a 9/16" which is the larger one. The smaller one that the auto places do stock is 7/16". I have 2 different 8" rearends and both have the larger size. The brass block is the same basic configuration as the early Falcons, Comets, Mustangs which have the 7/16" configuration and a separate hose which can be removed. I have no idea what the boys at Ford were thinking when they decided to go with an integral hose. I am currenlty waiting for a shipment from the CarQuest warehouse. So far, everybody here cannot get the hose from their suppliers. After this, I will have to try RockAuto or someone else. For those of you that have supplied info so far, can you verify that you have the larger 9/16" vent bolt?
