Will these fit our cars? O'Reilly has them for $69 and they have a body about 3/4 the size of the stock maverick one. I asked for 93 mustang just off the top of my head to look at the starter and it looks right...
Physically, yes, but wiring is a little different. I havent actually done it, so I couldnt tell ya how to do it. I do know its not difficult tho.
Yup Ford pickup's 1992 and newer are the same hi torque too.You just have to make a small jumper wire up because they have a selinoid mounted right on the starter.
Yeah, saw that solenoid. Looks more like the Chevy type I have used. Do I still need the solenoid on the fender or do I bypass it for this starter?
No leave both selenoids on,just run your big cable from the fenderwall selenoid to the large post on the starter and run a jumper from the large post to the smaller one on the starter selenoid.Works great i used one on a 302 ranger once.
I have one of the smaller permanent magnet starters on my mav. The normal large wire that goes to the starter needs to be hot all the time. I ran my positive battery wire to the original solenoid like normal, then from the same post to the starter. Then ran a 12 gage wire from the starter post (old solenoid) to the solenoid on starter.
Its much easier to run it like Derek said. Plus you dont have a unfused constant hot wire running down between your headers. Also you dont have to disconnect the battery to pull or install the starter.
Thanks guys. I like that answer. It was a nice and tight little starter, and I am pretty sure I can reach that top bolt with no problem:Handshake
