Now that the 71 Grabber is up and running. (Was up and running)

I am driving down the freeway when I notice clouds of white smoke rolling out the back.

Tranny fluid is pouring out. And I do mean POURING.
There is so much fulid under there I can't tell where it is coming from, but it apears to be the front of the tranny between the tranny and torque converter.

Have I a blown seal? torque converter?

Something had been getting louder in the drive train lately.

It still moves if you add fluid so it seems the transmission is ok???

    Thanks for any help.

    JD

JCJD; Sounds like a bad front pump. Ask 71gold about that particular animal. Time for a new tranny! Condolences,

    Earl

  thanks earl, i wasn't going to say anything. but comming back from the meet in savannah i lost 9 qts. of fluid. m.a.v. chris and i checked it out today and we think it is the front seal. the trans. mount is bad so we think it might have something to do with it. my tranny man is going to pull it later this week and let me know what he fines. i will post the findings when i get them...frank...:( :(

If it's a front seal, is that something I can replace or am I better off buying a rebuilt tranny?

jcjd, the seal is something you can replace. you might want to replace the front and rear bushings. the tranny will have to be pulled to put the seal in. in my case i am going to let a pro. do it because the tranny has just had a new front and rear seal installed. i need to know why it went. mine was also making a noise. i will let you know what we find. you, also let us know if you find anything....frank...:bananaman :bananaman
p.s. kelly, thanks, but i think this tranny is fine. we are looking at the flexplate or converter.

She goes into the tranny shop Friday.
I am shocked and appaled by the price but like the man said they havent built a C4 in over twenty years so it's not like parts are abundent.

I'll let you know how it goes.

I could have got it done much cheaper as well. But this shop would not do bench work as he wanted to check and clean the cooler and make sure the pressure through the cooler was right so the tranny would last. He machines the clutch plates to the proper thickness ( some stock ones are too thick) and gives a year warrenty.
I have no problem with paying more for quality work, so all in all I am happy with job.
