Today me I came across a junked 87 Lincoln Mark 7, with a 302HO and a positive traction rear. Can the rear bolt to my Maverick? And how good is this motor for performance upgrades? (58,000 miles on Odometer.)
The 8.8 will not just bolt up, but it can be made to fit for less than $300 if you can weld, or have a good friend who can. http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=35505
Not a good fit without fabbing mounts to the stock springs. The Lincoln has air suspension. The 8.8 is a different housing. Only the rear cover plate comes off versus your rear where the whole carrier bolts in from the front. Gears/track lok are not interchangable. Rear brakes are disc and emergency brake hook up is different. Your about 50 miles south. I run a 90 Mark 7 LSC, supercharged. If you want to know more about the Mark 7, there is a club in your area as well as several other Lincoln boards.
Ok, well scratch that idea with the rear being used. What about the 1987 302 H.O., I heard good things about that year ford motor.
bio thats a good engine i bet the crosshatching in the cylinders is still intact. b4 you start doing anything to the engine don't get rid of the heads they should be e7te and it should be a roller motor and with that amount of miles I would just take the engine and put it in and put a carb and intake make sure you use a steel gear for the distributor cause of the roller cam.
Up to that year, the motors had flat top pistons with 'no' valve reliefs making a higher lift cam install a problem for better performance. The heads were E6, the power rating at 200 hp. From 88 on to 93, the pistons are forged and have valve reliefs. These motors are actually Mustang motors running on Speed Density controlled fuel injecton and have the same 225 hp rating with E7 heads. The later motors would be a bit better overall and are roller lifter motors. If you want to go 302 and a good overall performing engine, consider a 2001 Explorer motor and out fit it with 86-93 parts on the ouside. This way you get 40p heads and a good hard pulling cam all from the factory. Only issue is getting headers fit to the application in a Mav. The 40p heads has a more straight out spark plug direction and need headers with more room to get at them. The photo shows how much header room is needed to get at the plugs. The eguipment on the top is the supercharger.
bio the flex plate will not work with the c4 you will need a 157 tooth 50oz flywheel to fit the c4. don't whatever you do use a flywheel that is not a 50oz flywheel. I can tell for a fact the engine you have is a HO engine and it was rated at 225 horses. If the engine didnt overheat and the vehicle ran great change the intake with a carb setup or take the complete efi and use it. you will get better performance and tunability out of the efi, plus you get better mpg out of it.
Bio i'm sorry i believe that bluegrass is probably right, I have a HO engine out of a 87 lsc mark7 and it had e7te heads. That is the reason that I believe that your engine should be the same but maybe the lsc makes a difference in engine package. I'm not sure maybe Blue has better info than me.
Great advice, I guess I'll use the motor with a carburetor and build it for an all motor application. Since the pistons are forged, and the motor gets a refreshed bottom end, Could it withstand a 100 to 125 shot of spray?
71gold on here can hook you up with a cross member to make that AOD bolt in. Of course you will still need to have your drive shaft shortened.
these guys come down to alot of car cruises in my area. you might be able to find someone to buy your leftovers and make a few bucks back http://www.thelincolnmarkviiclub.org/phpBB3/index.php
Beware the killer of mid-80's 302 Lincolns I heard this from a Ford "driveability" expert who worked at a dealer for years.... When doing cooling system maintenance, make sure you put in the correct thermostat. Most replacements are a few degrees different than the original units, and this leads to condensation inside the block, and sludge buildup in the oil returns. A lot of Lincolns gave up the ghost prematurely because of this little glitch. Buy Ford parts when you can, correct temperature for your block, and make sure it's breathing correctly, too.
Only LSC had the H.O.302 from the Mustang. All other Mark VII had Thunderbird 302 non HO All had speed den. FI.
