How the heck do you get the bolt holes for motor mounts lined up?

I spent 3 1/2 hours sliding around on a dolly under my car yesterday. I got the old motor mount out after a lot of fighting. I got the new one in place sort of i Have 1 bolt inthe block, 1 bolt through the frame and the one in the middle thet holds the two together. I ahve jacked pryed hammered and pushed in all directions with all manner odf tools and can't get the last two holes toline up. any hints? My tranny is out if that makes a difference

Unless I mis-interpretted this, you are trying to put this in as an assembly.

I would definitely have them in pieces and put the motor mount on the block, the frame mount on the frame and then join them together.

Finger-start all of the bolts in a mount, and then tighten them.

Sometimes with brackets it is hard enough to get the bolts lined up. Snug one bolt up without having the others in, and the rest won't go. If you have it half-assembled, everything could be steering the other pieces in the wrong directions.

    Good Luck with it!

Agreed. may be necessary to leave the bolts loose on the frame mounts untill everything lined up and is tight, but that's the basic procedure

I usually don't mess with the frame mounts. But i do leave the motor mounts loose, so they''' have a little wiggle room. After the mounts are lined up and tight. Then i tighten the motor mounts to the engine:).

My frame mounts and motor mounts are in, but only finger tight so they wiggle around pretty good. When the motor goes in (this weekend?) they will wiggle until the bolts line up, then everything gets tightened down.

Bob, how did you get it all together? My engine goes in this weekend, so I need to know if something unexpected pops up...

The last set of mounts I put in my truck I had to die grind out one of the holes just a frogs hair to get the block bolts in. The holes were off about half a thread. Made in India POS.
