Well, I'm different (as always). I prefer the look of the big bumpers IF they have the deluxe bumper group. The plain steel ones do look pretty awful but with bumper guards and rub strips, they look better to my eyes than the little ones. I do have both styles of cars. And of course they don't bend as easily when your bumped in the drive-thru, etc.,etc. Plus the body structures were reinforced with the switch which results in a quieter more substancial body.

NAH! Not bored with Frankie--I do like the small bumpers, but not enough to go through all the hassle--at least not now. She has too many other issues to deal with to worry about her bumpers! She is in the shop right now having some carb / choke work done AND having the gas guage fixed--it is not the fuel sending unit. It is in the instrument panel. The mechanic we are using says that he does not know where to get the parts. I am waiting to find out EXACTLY what he needs before I start beating the bushes looking for the parts. MAN, I wish I knew more about cars. I am envious of you guys who know all this stuff. I have to send mine to Mr. Mechanic! It sounds like it would be a lot of fun to be able to bring your own car back to life! Oh, well. At least I can cook! :thumbs2:

I have learned a few things about Frankie since I got her. She is a LOT like me! She is getting old, not as pretty as she once was, doesn't like cold weather AND she's a MOODY ol' Bitch! :biglaugh:
    I guess that's why I love her!

    Hi Sabrina:
Its strictly a matter of taste. I personally have removed the large bumpers from three cars and replaced them with valances and bumpers of a pre 73 car. In the process I lost 98 pounds of extra weight I was hauling around , and the "park bench" look of the larger bumper. We will soon have a conversion kit for Mavericks and Comets available sometime this year if you have a change of heart . Either way .. it doesn't effect the performace of the vehicle . Cometized

    Leave it alone

I am the kind of guy that believes you should leave the car the way in was manufactured by Ford for that model year at least for the USA. The safety features built in the cars for each model year were there for a reason. Mostly, a goverment manditory requirement for sale in the USA. If Modifications or alterations from the orginal design are done and an injury or a death happens in an accedent, you cannot blame Ford. That compliance sticker is there to protect the Manufacture so if you change the car you are on your own. If I could, I would buy an '71 or a '72 Maverick Grabber. I do like the look of the older cars with the small bumbers and the "Grabber" hood. Heck, after I sell my Lincoln I may buy one but, I will never change my '74. It is what it is! I think I will go play "Come and Get Your Love" by Redbone (1974).

so if your afraid to go small bumpers because you may get hurt in an accident how is buying an original small bumper car any better? a set of '72 bumpers on a '74 seems just as dangerious as an original '72 car.

He did not say he was afraid to go small bumper because of being hurt. His last few sentences says he likes the small bumpers and may get one.

Ah--I doubt that a bumper will have a WHOLE lot to do with how you fare in an accident. If it is your time, you gonna go. Anyway--as far as the real issue at hand, the bumpers, they both have their pros and cons. Honestly, I don't really mind the large bumpers and never really thought much about it until I saw that so many others were of the opinion that they are "ugly". I guess I was becoming the proverbial "lemming", huh? Becoming a "follower" and a "conformist". AAAGGGHHH! Heaven, forbid! Anyway--right now it is a non-issue for Miss Frankie. Her choke problem is taking priority. She is being STUBBORN!!!!

That's what I considered before I decided to keep my big bumpers. I still need to get them rechromed, though...
