I am going to go to the shop that built my 347 tomorrow and ask them for an estimate of how much it would cost to yank/drop my 347 from my 4dr into the 2dr, and also, change rear ends and convert to the 5lug disc setup in front. does anybody have an idea of shop rates and what they may quote me?? i kinda hope that since i have everything i need it wont be too terribly much.

    thanks
    Jason

I say do it yourself and save all that cash for paint or your wallet. You're easy talking $2000 if you supply the parts and probably over $3000 if they need to supply both parts and labor ..

Local shop quoted me $600.00 to R&R the engine win my '70. No parts just the labor. (no parts needs except exhaust gaskets a few other small items)Scotty

if you're wanting to save some cash... do it yourself. plenty of free and "been there done that" advice right here. todd did just what you are doing... he is just turned 17. if you can't do it for whatever reason (and that's ok too) here in new jersey where EVERYTHING costs a fortune, i was quoted 600 for the engine swap. the rear swap should be 2 or 3 hours labor at most and the disc brake conversion should be the same or maybe a little less. it took us longer but we didn't have a lift and all those cool tools the shops have.

    Scott.

Keep in mind that when a shop quotes labor they are usually quoting "flat rate" from a standardized labor guide and although they may be able to do the work faster, it's pretty common to charge the listed amount of time.
While this may seem unfair at first, a lot of mechanics are paid using this system and if they don't do the work in less time than the job pays, they don't make very much money.
On the other hand it's very common to have something go sideways on you and spend three hours on a two hour job and you still only charge for two hours.
    Hope that made sense.

    Jason,

You need to rally the MCCI troops in CO. Let's have a working Saturday or Sunday. I can bring a cherry picker, a floor jack and some jack stands. Put them side-by-side thrash away.
