I found an orange comet gt original paint and decor bucket seats the works, heres the kicker, The paperwork from the dmv says it was built in 1970 and it has an original 200/6 with a c4 I am getting ready to sell this car but I would like to know the real production info for comet including the few made in 1970.

post up the vin and the door jam info.

just because it was build in '70 doesnt mean its a '70 model. '71 was the first year of the comet with the maverick body style. most of the '71 models probably went into production during 1970.

hopefully someone didnt switch vin plates on you with an actuall 70 comet.

wat im saying is "built in 1970" does not make it a 1970 model. my car is a 1976 model but it was build in 1975.

newtoford is correct. For example, my dad's '71 Torino 500 was built in August of 1970... but it is a 1971 model year car. My 1980 Mercury Capri RS was built in September of 1979. My grandpa's 2005 F150 was built in November of 2004. I could go on and on.

    comet gt with 200/6

Yeh I understand I have been buying cars for years. I am going to visit the car today, its in storage than I will report back with the VIN. I am guessing its a 1971 built in 1970 thats fine but I keep reading that there were almost none sold with 6 banger 200
so here is proof there were some ordered standard no frills.

comet GT's with 6's do seem to be pretty rare but since the GT package was just an appearence package and had nothing to do with performance any avaliable engine could be optioned under the hood, 6 or 8. the same is true for the grabbers, sprints and stallions.

along with the vin try to get a shot of the door jam tag too.

I think the only way to actually confirm that its a true GT is through a marti report since none of the numbers in the vin of a comet represent a GT package

    Worst case scenario:
Someone re-vin'd the car for some reason or another.
Could have put a 70 Mav dash on there from a junk car with a title.

Might look unmolested, but it's been 38 years!
Long shot, but it may have even been stolen long ago and someone made it legal by putting a junk Mav vin/title to it. Never know. Alot can happen in far less time.
