hey all ford merc folk. love the forum. I've learned alot browsing around. i currently own a white 74 Comet GT and a 78 ford f100. The Comet has a 351w/t5 in it and the truck has a 302/c4 fact a/c. I'll post some pics as soon as the weather clears up here in NC, kindof cold and wet. The previous owner did the windsor t5 8.8 swap and did a decent job but I want to redo a couple of things. The longtube headers must be for a mustang and they look pretty butchered. I'm planning on the small bumper swap for sure and I think i've found a good parts donor car. My big bumpers don't look quite as bad as they did factory because I believe the previous owner gutted them and moved them in closer to the body. The 8.8 has been changed to 5 lug and i have the manual 5 lug discs on the front. Currently has the 14 in. factory slotted mags and white letters but picking up a set of 3.5 and 8 in. Weld Draglites tomorrow. Well gotta go, nice to meet all of you.
thanks, i'll post some pics tomorrow. it's a decent driver car, was painted probably 6 or 7 years ago but sat around and got a little rusty. mainly i'm in need of a floor pan section for the passenger side and most of all small bumpers.
Weclome aboard! :Handshake I'm sure you'll be hearing from Seth Roberts soon. He's the keeper of the Comet GT Registry...and he lives close by.
here's a few pics I snapped today. Don't know if I like the scoop or not just the only thing I had to cover up the huge hole in the hood someone cut out. Seems to be the only way to put a breather on it.
still has the leaf springs. it looks like he cut off the fact. lower control arm perches and just welded pads to the tubes. he also mad a set of traction bars that look like slide-links but don't slide, just adjustable. one thing to remember about this swap is that it looks like an 8.8 is 1 in. or so wider than a fact. 8 inch.
my poor old truck, been neglected since I got my Comet back on the road. For a rough old truck this thing runs and drives great. AC still works but needs charging. I'm a big fan of the 67-72 trucks and I had a 64 that I liked alot too.
