My starter has become tempermental once the engine is warm, and I want to replace it. I am considering getting a high torque mini starter and I wanted to ask from those who know the pros and cons, and a brand or model I should look for. I see new ones on EBAY strting under $60 bucks to "Ford Racing" brand at $230. Some input would be appreciated

Im cheap, so i use to ol' $60.00 one myself. I'd say unless you have a high compression engine 12:1-up(mines 11:1) you would be fine. Alot of people dont realize just how far stock stuff will go.

I have a Jeg's mini-starter on my stroker motor and it cranks it over hot or cold with no problem. It was about $150.

I'm putting off on a mini starter until my old one dies out. Here is the receipt that shows what I paid for my last starter. Best $14.95 I ever spent. It ain’t funny how time has changed.

use a starter off a 94-95 5.0 mustang. they are mini high tourque. you can get them at any parts store. they wire up a little differently. run a full time hot bat cable from the big lug on the starter directly to the bat. then run a 10 gage or bigger wire from the solonoid where the old starter cable was to the tab terminal on the new starter. some people will just run a jumper wire from the tab to the lug on the starter but i find this creats a run on condition with the starter for a few seconds.
i have this starter on my 11 to 1 compression motor and it spins it like theres no compression. the starter is a lot lighter and more compact than the older style one.

I bought one here, it works great.

    http://www.db-starter-alternator.com/Items/3205-new?

NEW FORD MINI PMGR RACING STARTER 302 351 HIGHER TORQUE 3205 Price: $44.95

This starter will replace older 4 inch and 4-1/2 inch 9 tooth bendix gear starters
providing a 50% weight reduction and requiring less cranking amps while
    cranking with twice the torque!
Because the PMGR starter is a smaller size, it provides better header clearance
and reduces the effects of a hot start.

We also include the wiring kit # 79-2114 at no extra charge if
you are changing over from the older style starter.
