I know (atleast I think I know) I am going to need a front sump pan for the v8 conversion. But will just any pan work. I am buying an aftermarket pan (roller block i bought didnt have one).
    • Do you guys run aftermarket pans? If so which ones?
    • Will any front sump work?
    • Anything to look out for?

Are you looking for a stock or extra capacity pan?

Anything that will fit really. My brother and me are build a 347 Stroker so make a suggestion based off of that.

An extra capacity pan would be nice!

I bought Summit's front sump pan for about $40. Have it on my 5.0. IIRC front sump pans were all the same except for some van applications.

NOT ANY FRONT SUMP WILL WORK!
need to check on the width of the pan if you go with an bigger than stock pan. You can (cause I did) get into clearance issues

I use a Moroso 7qt. and haven't had any clearance problems. I've heard theat the chrome pans, while looking nice, hold the heat more. Same on the tranny pans.:)

i agree check the width we got one and it was too wide so we had a friend of ours cut it and weld the corners up so we no longer have a problem.

I have run Moroso 10" sumps without issue.

The only pans you have to watch out for is the 'kick-out' type pans.

Other than those, pretty much any front sump works.

Now, here's what you look for:

    Milodon kick-outs work fine.
If you look closely at the Milodon, you will see that the wide part of the pan slopes down, kinda triangular.

Now think about a Cobra style kick-out.
They kick-out in a rectangular shape.
    What you might call 'boxed'...
    Those type kick-outs don't fit.

Oh yeah, chrome does hold in heat.
Dark colors like black and blue are best for heat dissipation.

Well I found two that will seem to work. They are stock 5 quart, wet sump, chrome (didnt want that, oh well) and are stroker clearanced. Thanks for all of your work
