just wondering if any of you guys know anything about the following? 1. will 65 to 68 mustang spindels fit on a maverick and if so.. what needs to be done. 2. is the actual spindel (the part where the hub / bearings go) longer then the stock maverick one (pre-73) or stock granada one (77 and up). any help would be great!
As far as drum brake spindles go, only '70 Mustang will properly fit on a Maverick. The '70 Mustang spindle part number and Mav drum brake spindle part numbers are the same. I'm not positive about the later disc spindles, my interchange manual doesn't cover those years. But I doubt if they would work correctly.
1-65 thru 68 spindles have a smaller bearing ID & the tie rod ends also utilize a smaller tie rod. Furthermore, the caliper method of mounting is different. The spindle will interchange into the upper & lower ball joints, but you'd have to change out the tie rod ends & run the early brakes. 2-There is .230 difference in spindle offsets between the two. Hope this helps.
yeah that really helps out alot. this couold save me alot of time! might you have or know anyone that might have a set. i'm not worried about how the caliper mounts cuz i have this (see pic) thats the new caliper mount. i can't use that with a ganada or the stock maverick one cuz e the when you mount it on the spindel the caliper bracket hits and rubs the rotor.
Maverick Man, Did I miss something? What is this bracket for? Where did you get it, if you don't mind sharing that info? Thanks; John B.
Really the early spindles are pretty easy to come by because everyone wants the bigger spindles because of the added thickness & strength. I'd look on the VMF site under parts & you'll probalby find a pair cheap. I don't know how many I've thown out over the years. Go to www.vintage-mustang.com & see if you can find a pair. What calipers/rotors are you trying to utilize with the early spindles & those brackets?
no problem the bracket is a conversion for a big brake setup. Some of the was for a Pinto set up but the spindel backet didn't come close to working. so i got a 65-68 bracket from them and the thing bolted right on to the stock 73 non disk spindel! awsome right? but the thing is as you can see... the thickness of the bracket gets in the way of the rotor and hub. the hub won't sit flush. so thats why i was asking maybe the stock mustang ones will work so i don't have to modify the brackets. oh stuffs from wilwood... i'll post another pic of the kit when i get home also if anyone else has any ideas i'm all ears!
hum thanks for the info.. god i wish you had them would be much easier for me to get eh? but i'll look on that site you gave me.. hopefully i find some... but let me know if you do run into any. as for the rotors and calipers they are wilwoods. i'll post up a pic later on tonight. again if you got any ideas let me know thanks again
