It's a semi-hemi similar to the Boss 429 head. A hemi chamber with two quench pads.

I consider the maverick as much of a muscle car as any other.

A muscle car has to come from the factory as a muscle car IMO. The V8 Grabbers may have impersonated muscle cars, but there is nothing muscle about a 2V engine, 3 speed trans and open 3.00 gear.

This is the 3rd Beretta I've owned. I've always liked them. I think they make great drivers. I was really impressed with the Z26 - it handles better than the other two base models I had. Thicker anti-sway bars and 16" wheels (compared to 14") make a difference!

You're not talking about your race car are you? Didn't you build a Beretta a few years back?

My brother had a '92 Grand AM with the quad 4 for about 6 months in 2003. Man, I hated that car. One problem after another. But, we bought it for $100 with 195,000 miles on it, and sold it for $400 with 204,000, so I guess that wasn't bad.

The way I understand it, the quad 4 was junk. I've never owned one, it's just what I've heard. I guess they blow head gaskets often. My Z26 is a 3.1 - it's a '96.

The basic engineering of the quad 4 lives on in the GM Ecotec engine. AJ Foyt set various speed records and endurance records with the original Quad 4. The Ecotec engines are capable of massive horse power. With GM autorized parts you can get 1100 hp from the 2.2 ltr. version. The 2 ltr turbo version in the Saturn Sky, Pontiac Solstice and Chevy HHR-SS get 260 hp and 27mpg.

Oh, by the way..... How did this thread get on GM engines anyway?:rofl2:

Ours was just painfully slow. It ran smooth, but just had absolutely no power, ate serpentine belts, had very strange electrical problems, water leaked in the passenger floor board, and I'm pretty sure the car was haunted. The car was cosmetically in great shape, but mechanically it was a nightmare. I was already a die hard Ford guy, and that car sure didn't help my opinion of late model Chevy's.

The GTZ Beretta's had Quad fours and were supposed to be pretty quick. I've never owned one, so I don't know.
