Was trying to get my old demo derby car out of the backyard earlier today and decided to use the 75' Mav to pull it out. Using a chain through the bumper to pull it. Seems the wheel was locked up on the demo car and ended up breaking the chain and slicing up the radiator on the Mav. Fortunately have the 70' which should mate up perfectly so the mrs shouldn't be too pissed off I broke her car. Am hoping didn't do too much damage to her baby.
the originals on my '76 were great for sitting tools and things on when i was working under the hood of doing something in the trunk. i never had any expierence in the field but they looked like they could have took a decent hit too. at least by compairson to the ones on it now
So, swapped out the radiators between the 71' and the 75'. Trans cooler lines weren't quite the same but adapted to it. Had to cut the trans cooler lines on the 71 since they were rusted and wouldn't break free. The problem I have now is that she runs like she's missing a cylinder. Any ideas?
Can't see how changing the radiator would affect how the engine is running. Was it running ok before changing the radiator (after the radiator got sliced)? Maybe you knocked a plug wire loose or something? Back when I was driving my '74 Grabber, I pulled up at a red light one day and there was a guy in an older Grand AM broke down in a turn lane next to me. He looks over and asks me if I could push him down the street into a parking lot. Backed up behind him, pulled up to his bumper, and away we went, pushed him right on down the street into a gas station. Sure couldn't do that with my '72.
i agree, the front one on my '74 makes a great tool holder or usually a dr.pepper holder when i'm messing with stuff. Always thought it looked like a coffee table bolted to the front of a car
Well just got the bad news from the shop. It seems that #1 cylinder is only running 70lbs of pressure and it is blowing through the rings. Mechanic says time for a new motor. Fortunately I don't think it was something I did so momma can't be toooooo mad at me for breaking it.
Good news, looks like I have another motor all lined up for momma's car and was talking to her last nite about it and her question was " why not do the R & R ourselves?" Told her it might be fun to learn how to do that and keep the old motor to rebuild so we have a spare laying around the house. So, should have the info on the new motor in a week or so then down to OR. to pick her up and bring her home. Then it will be time to cross our fingers and start digging into swapping them out. Figure will detail the engine bay while it is out. Anyone local wanna give me a hand? Can supply the garage and the beer...lol.
Oh yeah, anyone have any experience w/a chrome dress up kit for an inline 6 and where is the best place to get one. Looked at JC Whitney last nite and they had one for a 255 motor. Am assuming can use this on my 250?
The 255 is a tiny V8 (not one of Ford's better ideas from around 1980). Dress-up items are the same as 302 and will not work for a 6 cylinder.
So sorry to hear that...... but it sounds like something i would do... ( If my hubby wasnt around to stop me)
