I am in the middle of putting in a B&M Star Shifter. I have to relocate the Nuetral Saftey Switch and the Back-up light switch to the new shifter.

Basically, I plan on keeping the old switches in and just extend the wires to the Star Shifter. Is this the right idea? I have a C4 Auto on the colum.

    The important questions are:

    1) Where is the Nuetral Safety Switch so I can get the wire from there?

    2) Where is the Back-up light switch so I can get the wire from there?

Am I doing this the right way?

    Thanks in advance.

The neutral safety switch and the reverse light switch is at the bottom of the steering column on a column shifted car, if your lucky you may be able to find one that was for a floor shifted car, those are mounted on the transmission.

Dave the Start Shifter came with switches. So I am good there. You say both are on the colum. Inside the car? Near the firewall?

There is a black banana like shaped thing, at the bottom of the column, near the firewall

And see that red wire?? If you cut it your car won't start!! Good place for a hidden kill switch to be wired to.

Was that a floor shift column that you used? The floor shift column is still connected to the shift linkage on the transmission with a arm that moves the collar to the start or neutral position. I have one and it doesn't have the switch mounted on the column, like you say, it it mounted to the transmission. I could be wrong, and it's good to know if I am. :D

My early built (10/71) 1972 automatic floor shift car has a transmission mounted switch. The wires from the switch run up the firewall, thru a hole in the firewall, and plug in under the steering column where the column mounted switch would have been.

I've been wondering about the same thing. Mine is a fact. manual floorshift and I would like to wire the back-up lights to my t5, so I need to look for the same lower column mounted switch as well?

you can also order a transmission mounted Neutral switch for a 72-73 Mustang w/ C6 transmission, and it is correct for Mavericks to the best of my knowledge :)
