Anyone use Unlimited Products Maverick front roll pan? How is the quality? Their site says the weight is 4lbs. I expected it to weigh a little more than 4 lbs. Must be really thin. Just wondered if it would hold up on a street/strip car? Comments? Cleaver
I got a pin on trunk lid from them. No problem. Not the greatest for a show car but for a race only it's fine.
i got a front roll pan for my car from them and the quality of it was pretty good but the hood was another story it was a POS!!!
When you guys refer to a roll pan, are you talking about the part that fits under the bumper, or about a part that replaces the bumper AND the sheetmetal under it? Anybody have a pic of one of these roll pans? I didn't see one, or any references to one on the Unlimited website. Thanks. John B.
i have always reffered to it as a gravel sheild, but its the peice that bolts to the bottom of the fenders and goes under the bumper,, hope that helps
Purple70 - sounds like you have the part I am asking about. You are right, Unlimited lists it as a gravel pan. They do not have a picture, but list part MA-104. So --the quality is pretty good? I just thought 4 lbs might be a severely lightened race only part. Your Mav sees street/strip duty, right? Is it holding up? No cracks? My pan had 3 large stretched out dents in it when I got it. I can fix it - but I estimate I could spend 6 hours to get is roughed in - and then another 4 to finish. For $75 I would much rather trade 2 hours prep and skip the other 8 hours with a pick, planishing hammer, and block sander. What was bad about the hood? I was looking at the Unlimited 4-3/4 cowl hood as well. Was it out of square around the edges? Wavy? I saw your car on the virtual car show. In fact - you got my vote. The hood looks good. I got a hood from them a few months ago, I have not put it on the car yet to check for fit, but as far as quality goes, it did not look to bad. I am ordering a front bumper from them Friday, I just hope it doesn't take 2 months like the hood did!!!!!
i think the gravel sheild was a good investment, the one i had for the car needed a little work, so i saved myself a little time by buying one, it was a simple scuff and primer and drill the holes job,,, the hood on the other hand was very poorly finished, the gelcoat on the top was coming off and where they stuck the scoop on at the front was FAR from being right (if you see the car in person you can see that that area still aint perfect) and the underside the bracing or whatever you wanna call it was like twisted when they stuck it to the shell so we had to trim the edges and then the rear of the cowl opening was cut real funny and looked like crap!! over all i think my body man had ATLEAST a full weekend on just the hood!! not to mention the fact it took almost 9 weeks to get it.. i wouldnt recommend their hoods to anybody but the gravelsheild was a good peice,,, maybe i just got the friday afternoon hood that they rushed out but i wasnt satisfied but didnt have another 2 months to wait for another one...
I'm planning to get a rear gravel pan ( I call it a vallance) from Unlimited Products. It is not uncommon for aftermarket fiberglass parts to need body-work before installation on the vehicle, so don't expect perfection out of the box. I would not accept an extremely "wavy" (warpped) hood though...not for the amount of money they cost...
i didnt expect a show quality part but when it takes 9 weeks to get it and they tell you 14 days, then to get it and then have to spend that much time getting it paintable is a JOKE!! if i woulda known it was gonna be that bad i would have bought a glass hood from somebody else and added the scoop myself and saved a couple bucks..
Thanks for the input guys. It is much appreciated. I know there is a wide variety in glass parts from previous projects. The best glass parts I ever bought was a set of rear fenders for my F-100 stepside. A company called Fairlane made them and they only required a little sanding around the corners to remove flash, a scuff with 400 grit and a coat of sealer. The worst parts I got were front fenders for the same vehicle. I bought them from an old parts dealer and do not know who made them, but they were very wavy. Also the reinforcement brace at the cowl was so thick I had to remove so much material to get them to line up with the door that I had to go back in and epoxy aluminum angles on the inside to get the stiffness back.
