Hi everyone, just wanted to say hi. I've owned RWD Fords for several years now, but have recently gotten into the world of carbs and three-speed automatics (albeit not in a Mav), so I thought I'd join here and tap into the knowledge about some of the earlier hardware my pals aren't so comfortable with. My first Ford was the 1987 Mercury Colony Park that I bought in November of '97 and still drive nearly every day. My first carbureted vehicle was a rustbucket '79 Country Squire originally fitted with a C4 and a 351-2V (2150, not VV), and after substituting the roller 302 from the other wagon along with a Performer 289 intake and EDL-1404 carb and later swapping in a rebuilt C4 for reliability, I decided I liked the older system well enough to convert the SEFI-equipped Mercury to a carbureted system as well. Now after ultimately junking the Squire, its engine and transmission are destined for a newly acquired '81 LTD two-door. I hadn't set out to get another "Panther" platform vehicle, but it's something I've become pretty familiar with and have some spare parts for, plus I got a decent deal on a mostly rust-free, relatively lightweight (3460 lbs. new) car for about 500 bucks. Aside from the usual safety updates like lots of new brake lines, the biggest headache is proving to be modifying the C4 to shift at 5k RPM instead of 4k (the engine as it sits currently appears to have a theoretical horsepower peak around 4800) and locating the appropriate speedo gear. Nothing the car won't run and drive without, but annoying just the same. I noticed while scouring the 'net for info that folks on this site seem to have a lot more experience with C4s than other guys I know who mostly run mildly modded AODs, plus there are plenty of other odds and ends from your earlier cars that I don't know much about, so here I am.
welcome abord there are definatly alot of knolegable guys here who know what theyre talking about good luck with your projects
