well guys, I finally got the mav started after a year of tinkering with the v8 swap. I have the 302 with c4 behind it. I knew this was going to be a problem when I started but now I need to address this problem so I can do a one wheel peel down my street. the power steering stabilizer shock is hitting the header. I'v seen guys notch the header and reweld, I've seen guys put a 2" spacer under the new mounting bracket. I have headmen headers and neither one of these fixes are an option. can I just take the stabilizer out or will the steering be all over the place? I can deal with manual steering but not if it's going to be a real danger. I'm the only one driving it and it's only going to be a weekend cruiser. any help would be appreciated.
Go to your local Auto Parts store. Tell them you need the power steering drop down bracket for your headers. The cost is around $20.Then you'll be good to go...
I have that bracket and it isn't even close. I just want to know if I can run the car safely with everything taken off the power steering setup except the power steering box. I've heard it's not good and I've heard it's ok. just want to know for sure.
i removed the...P/S drag link and pitman arm...replaced it with one from a '70 non P/S car...then you can remove all the P/S stuff...they came from the factory without P/S so it is safe. Manual Steering or Power Steering?? ...:Handshake...
hey, removed the pump and shock from under the car. it looks like the pitman arm is connected the the power steering thing at the end of. driver side steering linkage. does that have to be removed or can I just cap off the fluid lines drive until I find the parts?
It is easier on the steering gear if you connect the hoses together. That way they just recirculate the oil.
